A unique opportunity for a Finance Director has arisen to join our Senior Management Team based at our Head Office in Cardiff. Purpose & Scope of the role:


To support, partner and be a key member of the Senior Management Team to deliver the Company strategy and the day-to-day management of the business.


The Finance Director will lead the Finance, Loss Prevention & Retail Support team, with the primary focus being the financial and management reporting function, including the preparation of budgets, forecasts and financial reports whilst providing advice and guidance on financial and business strategy.


Together with the Senior Management Team, you will also lead the business to deliver and drive results, growth and identify new organic business opportunities. In addition, the role will encompass overseeing the management of the Distribution Centres and E-fulfilment Centre.


Key Responsibilities:


  1. Provide leadership to optimise the company’s financial performance and strategic position.
  2. Manage and lead the finance department to ensure timely financial data is provided to the GFD and key stakeholders in the business, ensuring accuracy, integrity and a sound foundation for business decisions and performance reporting.
  3. Ensure that company financial systems and processes are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth.
  4. Ensure robust cash management and forecasting to meet the requirements of the business for day-to-day, CAPEX and growth strategies.
  5. Support the finance department to develop all necessary policies and procedures to ensure the sound financial management and control of the Company.
  6. Ensure that period financial information, budgeting and forecasting processes and reports are completed in a timely manner, reviewed and agreed with the GFD.
  7. Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met.
  8. Work with the CEO and SMT to ensure accuracy & transparency of financial forecasting.
  9. Contribute fully to the development of the company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers.
  10. Work with senior teams to grow the business, formulating strategies and plans to future-proof the business in a rapidly changing and competitive environment.
  11. Monitor external contracts and services with suppliers, partners and concessions ensuring efficiency, effectiveness and VFM (including payment terms) whilst allowing operational flexibility to maximise potential and support to the business.
  12. Provide guidance and support, from a financial point of view, during contract and pricing/ repricing negotiations.
  13. Ensure that accounting policies comply with relevant accounting standards and that company policies are followed.
  14. Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with all areas of the business and external stakeholders.
  15. Ensure operational excellence and flexibility to support our stores with the supply of stock in a timely and efficient manner via our DCs.
  16. Ensure operational excellence and a high level of service to our ecommerce customers via the EFC.
  17. Oversee, lead and develop all teams / areas that report into the Finance Director.

Skills Required:


Essential:

  1. ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountant holding with 10+ years post qualification experience gained in a commercial environment.
  2. Significant experience of working in a retail or FMCG business is an advantage.
  3. Extensive executive level strategic and financial experience.
  4. Strong commercial acumen with experience of supporting excellent operational & trading performance.
  5. Capacity for pushing through change and achieving the desired results.
  6. Strong leadership, relationship building & people management skills.
  7. Excellent business and analytical skills with a high degree of intelligence and creativity.
  8. Excellent communication skills with all levels of stakeholders both internally and externally.
  9. Possess an open and proactive style of communication and be approachable.
  10. A style that is hands-on, adaptable, resilient & determined.
