Job description

The Business & Opportunity:

With recent investment from venture capitalists, this is a fantastic opportunity to join when they are at the cusp of something very exciting with realistic growth plans.
As the Commercial Management Accountant, you will play a vital role in the financial health and strategic decision-making of the company. You will take responsibility for preparing financial reports, analysing data, and advising colleagues and senior leaders on the financial implications of business decisions.
As a newly created role, this is a genuine opportunity to make a real impact in the business future plans as they continue to grow.
They offer a truly flexible and hybrid approach, where you will be based at their office in the Centre of York at least twice per week in their non-corporate and sociable environment.

Specific Requirement:
  1. Decision Support:
    Provide financial analysis to support key business decisions, including investment appraisals and business cases.
    Analyse financial risks and opportunities to assist management in strategic planning.
    Carry out financial analysis of projects for internal and external stakeholders.
    Support on potential and upcoming transactions through analysis and the preparation of information.
  2. Cost Control and Analysis:
    Conduct detailed cost analysis and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
    Suggest value generative activities based on analysis and insight.
    Support the management of overheads and ensure cost efficiency through senior and operational colleagues.
  3. Stakeholder Collaboration:
    Work closely with operational teams to understand and improve financial performance.
    Communicate financial insights and recommendations to non-financial colleagues.
    Support the Financial Controller and CFO with decision making, drawing on insight and delivery to senior colleagues as required.
  4. Financial Reporting:
    Carry out month-end and year-end close, working closely with other members of the accounting department.
    Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
    Develop and maintain accurate financial forecasts and budgets.
    Produce variance analysis reports and provide explanations for key financial trends.
  5. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    Assist in the annual budget preparation process for key business areas.
    Monitor performance against budgets and provide insights to improve financial outcomes.
    Regularly update topco and project forecasts as necessary.
  6. System and Process Improvement:
    Work with the finance team to identify and implement improvements in financial systems and processes.
    Support the integration of new systems and tools to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.
Skills & Experience required:
  1. Qualified or Part-qualified CIMA/ACMA/ACA/ACCA. (Qualified by Experience may also be considered).
  2. Experience in management accounts and financial analysis, preferably in a similarly complex organisation.
  3. Project finance skills will prove advantageous.
  4. Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial systems and Excel.
  5. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distil complex financial information into clear and actionable insights.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

A starting salary of between £50,000 - £55,000 depending on experience.
