About the team and the role
Reporting to our Senior Finance Manager - Ambient, you will be the trusted Business Partner to our Trading Managers for a Grocery Category team and help support them grow through commercial insight.
What you'll do
- Be the trusted business partner to one of our Grocery category teams (we have 6 teams), supporting the Trading Manager and Buyers in the team
- Provide regular, robust and insightful reporting around drivers and drainers of trade performance, understanding mix vs rate analysis, and how the various brands are driving performance
- Working with our data insight colleagues, cut through the data to enable better & faster commercial decision making, ensuring we provide our customers with the most comprehensive and compelling ranges
- Ensure trade decisions are actioned from the data to improve performance
- Support in annual business plans with suppliers to negotiate the best deal for Ocado, then monitor performance against agreed targets throughout the year, advising on course corrections if required
- Proactively advise with price, promotion and buying decisions on a daily basis, and be the finance expert for the category
- Own the forecasting process for your category, making forecasting accuracy improvements and enabling key trade drivers to be understood
- Work closely with your peers within the Commercial Finance team to standardise processes across categories and share analysis or best practice
- Lead and develop more junior members of the wider commercial finance team
Who you are- Qualified accountant, with post-qualified experience
- Commercial finance experience (gained in grocery retail/FMCG is highly desirable)
- Strong communication and influencing skills; able to build relationships with key stakeholders across the business
- Mentally agile, adaptable and responsive person, open to change and suggestions
- Enthusiastic to learn and inquisitive
- Prepared to go the extra mile and ensure that the job is well done and not just completed
- Methodical, organised and responds quickly to change, whilst demonstrating a proactive approach
- Highly numerate and analytical with a keen eye for detail, quality and accuracy, that is deadline-focused and goal-oriented
