Finance and Payroll Officer (Deputy to Head of Finance and Payroll)

Location: The Sixth Form, Bolton

Salary: Competitive, based on experience (£33k to £35k)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent, Full Year

We are seeking a Finance and Payroll Officer to join our small but dynamic finance team at a leading sixth form college in Bolton. This role is perfect for an ambitious individual eager to develop their skills and progress in their career. As well as managing key finance and payroll responsibilities, you will deputise for the Head of Finance and Payroll, offering excellent exposure to senior financial management.

What You’ll Do

1. Oversee day-to-day finance and payroll operations
2. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
3. Process payroll accurately and efficiently
4. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies
5. Support audits and financial planning activities
6. Step up in the absence of the Head of Finance and Payroll

What We’re Looking For

1. Minimum Level 3 AAT qualification, working towards Level 4 AAT
2. Ambition to progress to a professional accounting qualification (e.g., CIMA)
3. Experience in finance and/or payroll, ideally in an education setting
4. Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
5. Ability to work independently and take on leadership responsibilities when required
6. A team player with excellent communication skills
