Job description

Field Service Technician

Salary: £28,730 pa

Requirements for Birmingham & Leamington Spa Service centres

Hours: 8.00am-5.00pm Monday-Friday

Job purpose:

Working from our Birmingham and Leamington Spa depots to enable the Company to achieve the agreed contractual standard of service required by completing initial training in the workshop reconditioning wheelchair equipment to gain essential product knowledge. On completion of initial training, this will enable you to work out in the field delivering and collecting equipment whilst undertaking further training for repairing and servicing wheelchairs. The expectation is that once fully trained most jobs will be completed on a first-time fix basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Servicing and repairing Powered & Manual wheelchairs in the field with the aim of achieving a first-time fix whenever possible.
  2. Delivering and collecting wheelchairs to and from service user's homes and NHS departments, always ensuring that the Company Infection Control Policy is followed.
  3. Ensure all paperwork relating to each job is read carefully and completed with all the necessary information regarding parts used and action taken written onto the job card to enable the administration team to accurately update the database.
  4. Ensure any PPE supplied for use in carrying out your duties is used as instructed.
  5. Once fully trained, undertake out of hours responsibility when rostered.
  6. Observe all regulations covering the driving and use of the Company vehicle on the public highway and be aware of employee responsibility under the Health & Safety at Work Act.
  7. Keep the vehicle you use in a tidy state and ensure stocks of all necessary parts are replenished each day.
  8. Ensure the vehicle safety check and the van check sheet are done each week.
  9. Maintain a professional customer service attitude and always use discretion when dealing with all service users and other agencies, always wear your uniform and identification badge, and ensure the uniform is always kept clean and laundered.
  10. Prioritise and organise your workload, referring to Line Manager as and when appropriate.
  11. Be responsible for the maintenance and safe keeping of all tools and equipment provided by the Company as outlined in the Company handbook.
  12. Agree to undertake all training offered that is necessary to maintain the skills required for this role.

Qualifications:

  1. Full UK driving licence
  2. Successful enhanced DBS check.
  3. Able to move and handle loads and equipment safely.
  4. Experience of face-to-face customer contact.
  5. An awareness and understanding of people with disabilities.
  6. Flexible approach to working conditions and working environment change.
  7. Ability to use own initiative within set boundaries of the role.
  8. Ability to use a mobile phone to relay photographs.
  9. Good written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Ability to relay clear instructions to clients.
  11. Basic computer skills for diagnostic purposes.

Physical demands of the job:

  1. Moving and handling of equipment and accessories following handling guidelines
  2. Standing at a bench to work
  3. Kneeling/crouching
  4. Use of ramps and any other agreed moving equipment.

Most challenging/difficult part of the role:

  1. Flexible working/responsive to changing priorities as set by Line Manager or Customer Service team.
  2. Committing to being available for short notice overtime if required necessitated by emergency response requirements.
  3. Responsibility of out of hours duties.

Confidentiality:

Carrying out the work involved with this position, the employee will become party to confidential information including service user information. It is of paramount importance that all information is kept on a private and confidential basis and not disclosed to any other person.

Health and Safety:

The post holder is required to take reasonable care for his/her own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions. The post holder is also required to co-operate with supervisory and managerial staff to ensure that all relevant statutory regulations, policies, codes of practice and departmental safety procedures are adhered to, and to attend relevant training programmes.

Prevention and Control of infection:

The prevention and control of infection is an integral part of the role of all Ross Care personnel. Staff members will contribute to the prevention and control of infection through standard infection control practices and compliance with the Company infection control policy.
