Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance, Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Cold Room/Freezers -22 degrees F/-6 degrees C, Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.)

Field Service Engineers are considered "remote" colleagues since they commute daily to customer sites to provide service. As such, they are provided with a Fleet vehicle to allow for daily travel to multiple customer locations in their defined service area. Some overnight travel will be expected to service customers and participate in training programs.

The FSE will handle various aspects of field service support and customer relationships within our Laboratory Equipment Division (LE). He will provide sophisticated services on laboratory equipment, including repairs, preventative maintenance, installation, and instrument qualifications, as well as being an advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific.

What you'll do:

  • Repair, install, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment products including incubators, centrifuges, cold storage (refrigerators and freezers), and other equipment as needed.
  • Schedules and completes detailed preventative maintenance and corrective service to ensure peak uptime of customer equipment.
  • Provide onsite service training to Biomedical Engineering Technicians (BMET) or advanced operators.
  • Submit expenses and manage trunk stock inventory in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Document daily service actions through the company work order database.
  • Maintain courteous and knowledgeable communication with customers to ensure alignment of all aspects of the service events.

How will you get there?

Education

  • Associate Degree in Electronics or Engineering or a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 3 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Electronics preferred.
  • EPA Certification preferred.
  • Accredited trade school certification- HVAC/R or Electronic Technician preferred.

Experience

  • 3+ years of field service experience with strong electronic/electrical and mechanical expertise.
  • Experience in customer-facing positions preferred.
  • Experience working with basic test equipment such as DMM, tachometer, and temperature devices, including hands-on refrigeration experience is preferred.
  • Ability to operate computers, smartphones, and related software efficiently.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; ability to prioritize multiple priorities with minimal direction.

  • Ability to meet or exceed critical business metrics around performance, customer service, and operating procedures.

  • Technical Skills- maintains advanced certifications and a broad product knowledge.

  • Handle regional activities such as warranty submissions, customer concerns, call prioritization, scheduling queries, team calls, sales relationships, etc.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs with assistance, and carry 25-30 lbs continuously throughout the day.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver's license, and drive frequently within the territory and travel overnight if required.
