Fertility Clinical Fellow- ST7 (MT05)

King's College Hospital has been at the forefront of fertility treatment for more than 40 years. The assisted conception unit has been in existence since 1983 and provides a full range of investigations and treatment for infertility in dedicated premises. As of the 1st of November 2017, the fertility services were transferred to King's Fertility, a partnership between the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) and King's College Hospital.

Currently there are 6 RCOG accredited subspecialist consultants working within King's Fertility, as well as a further 7 consultants with specialised teams responsible for Andrology, Reproductive Surgery and Fertility Preservation. Last year the unit performed approximately 2100 cycles of IVF/ICSI. The unit is based within the Fetal Medicine Research Institute, Denmark Hill.

Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow at King's Fertility and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Fellow to join our busy and well-established IVF and Reproductive Medicine service. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain comprehensive, hands-on experience in assisted conception, andrology and fertility preservation within a leading fertility centre.

Main duties of the job

Together with the others to provide Maternity & gynaecology services for women attending King's College Hospital. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties required for the proper functioning of the department.

1. Shared responsibility with colleagues for providing 24-hour, 7 day a week cover for the obstetrics & gynaecology on an on-call rota basis. Responsibility for covering colleague's periods of annual leave and short-term sickness/absence, in line with departmental policy.
2. Clinical supervision of other junior medical and non-medical staff.
3. Responsible for carrying out teaching undergraduate students, contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
4. To contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust's R& D framework.
5. To contribute to the Clinical Audit Programme.
6. To be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. To undertake annual training/updates in infection prevention and control.
7. Excellence within own department/area of responsibility.
8. To prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety.

Job responsibilities

• Clinical Care: Assessing and managing patients with fertility concerns, including investigating causes of infertility and advising on treatment options.
• Assisted Conception Treatments: Supporting patients through ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilisation (IVF), and fertility preservation procedures.
• Ultrasound and Procedural Training: Developing proficiency in transvaginal ultrasound scanning, follicular tracking, and embryo transfer techniques.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Working closely with consultants, nurses, embryologists, and counsellors to provide holistic, patient-centred care.
• Patient Support and Counselling: Guiding patients through their fertility journey with clear communication, empathy, and emotional support.
• Research and Innovation: Contributing to fertility-related audits, clinical trials, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
• Education and Training: Supporting junior doctors and participating in teaching sessions on reproductive medicine.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
Essential

• MBChB/MBBS or equivalent.
• MRCOG Part 1,2 & 3
• Full registration with GMC/GDC with License to Practice.
• Satisfactory completion of Foundation post or equivalent
• Registered with and holds a licence to practice with the GMC

Desirable

• Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of advisory appointments committee).
• Extensive NHS experience
• Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
