Job description

KASE Care is seeking a compassionate and experienced Female Complex Healthcare Assistant to provide specialist care for a service user in Dunstable with a spinal cord injury and an acquired brain injury. The role involves supporting the individual with tracheostomy and ventilator care, suctioning, autonomic dysreflexia management, PEG feeding, diabetes management, catheter care, and moving & handling using a hoist.

This is a 12-hour shift role (days and nights), offering £13 - £16 per hour during a six-month probationary period. Successful candidates must be comfortable with dogs, as the service user lives alone with their pet. Full training and induction will be provided at our head office in Loughton.

Main duties of the job

  • Tracheostomy & Ventilator Care: Perform regular suctioning and use cough assist as needed.
  • Autonomic Dysreflexia Management: Monitor and respond to symptoms effectively.
  • Moving & Handling: Assist with transfers using a hoist.
  • Medication Administration: Manage and administer rig medication safely.
  • Diabetes Management: Monitor blood sugar levels and respond accordingly.
  • Specialist Feeding: Support PEG feeding and ensure proper nutrition.
  • Catheter Care: Monitor and assist with catheter management.
  • Personal Care & Hygiene: Assist with daily living tasks, including bathing, dressing, and toileting.

  • 12-hour Day Shifts: 08:30 20:30
  • 12-hour Night Shifts: 20:30 08:30

Pay Rate: £13 - £16 per hour during a six-month probationary period (subject to increase upon successful completion of probation).

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be female due to the personal care needs of the service user.
  • Previous experience in complex care is highly desirable.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.

Recruitment & Training Process:

  • All successful candidates must attend a recruitment day at our head office in Loughton.
  • If successful during the recruitment and interview stage, candidates must complete a five-day intensive induction, also held at our head office in Loughton.
  • Comprehensive training will be provided, including specialist training on all aspects of the service users care needs.

  • Ventilator Management Monitoring and troubleshooting ventilator support.
  • Autonomic Dysreflexia Awareness Recognising symptoms and responding appropriately.
  • Moving & Handling Using hoists and other mobility aids safely.
  • Medication Administration Including rig medication management.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Right to Work in the UK Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent qualification).
  • Previous Experience in Complex Care Specifically in tracheostomy and ventilator care, PEG feeding, diabetes management, and moving & handling with a hoist.
  • Tracheostomy & Ventilator Training Certification Evidence of prior training and competency.
  • Medication Administration Training Including rig medication management.
  • PEG Feeding Training Experience with specialist feeding techniques.
  • Moving & Handling Training Experience using hoists and other mobility aids.
  • Catheter Care Training Knowledge of correct monitoring and management.
  • Autonomic Dysreflexia Awareness Understanding of symptoms and appropriate responses.
  • Valid Enhanced DBS Check On the Update Service or willingness to obtain a new one.
  • Up-to-Date Mandatory Training Including Safeguarding, First Aid, and Infection Control.
  • Comfortable Working in a Home with a Dog As the service user lives alone with their pet.
  • Excellent Communication & Record-Keeping Skills Ability to log care notes accurately in the digital Care Planner app.
  • Commitment to Completing Full Induction & Training Attendance at a 5-day intensive induction at our head office in Loughton.

  • NVQ Level 3 or higher in Health & Social Care (or equivalent qualification).
  • Previous experience in complex care, specifically with spinal cord injuries and acquired brain injuries.
  • Additional Tracheostomy & Ventilator Care Experience, beyond basic training.
