Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Facilities Technician to play a pivotal role in maintaining a smooth-running facilities management system across all our West Sussex locations. This role requires a proactive, pragmatic individual with a solid background in facilities maintenance, hands-on DIY skills, and strong knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems. A valid driving licence, access to your own vehicle, and facilities experience are essential, as you will be responsible for traveling between sites and handling a range of maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Preventative Maintenance:

Carry out in-house PPM tasks for equipment including generators, compressors, air conditioning, and air quality systems.

Conduct monthly safety checks on fire extinguishers, emergency lights, emergency exits, call points, water temperatures, first aid provisions, ladder safety, and overall site security.

Facilities Management:

Maintain the Facilities Service Request Log, collaborating closely with department managers to plan and execute DIY tasks efficiently.

Work with the Facilities & Security Team Leader to schedule contractors for larger tasks.

Repairs & Upkeep:

Assist the Facilities Manager with maintenance activities including repairs to taps, toilets, showers, and general fixtures; refresh painting/decoration; fit floor tiles; clean external fire escape routes; and perform minor electrical repairs (e.g., fixing light fittings and installing plug sockets).

Safety & Supervision:

Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out safely and diligently, providing regular feedback to the Facilities Manager.

Monitor the contractor calendar, greet and supervise visiting contractors, and ensure adherence to safety standards and RAMS.

Administrative Duties:

Order parts and equipment via our purchasing system.

Carry out monthly meter readings and monitor waste areas, arranging collections as necessary.

Emergency Response:

Respond promptly to emergencies (e.g., plumbing issues, water leaks, power outages) to secure and, where possible, resolve the situation.

Arrange for emergency contractor attendance when required.

Project Work:

Assist with larger facilities projects alongside the Facilities Manager, department managers, and contractors to ensure smooth execution.

Compliance:

Adhere to the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety Management Systems and participate as part of the Business Continuity Emergency Response Team.

Education & Experience:

Proven experience in facilities maintenance, with a strong understanding of plumbing and electrical work.

Significant experience or relevant qualification in electrical work is highly advantageous.

Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and external contractors.

Proficient IT skills, particularly with MS Office applications.

A pragmatic, professional approach with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

Experience managing small building projects is beneficial (administrative support will be provided).

Must be physically fit, capable of moving and lifting heavy objects, and working at height.

Essential: Valid driving licence and own vehicle for travel between sites.

If you are a highly motivated Facilities Technician with the required hands-on skills and a commitment to maintaining excellent standards of safety and efficiency, we would love to hear from you. Apply now to join our dynamic team and contribute to a well-maintained and secure work environment
