Job description

As the Lead Centre for Paediatric Intensive Care services for the West Midlands, we care for critically ill children from a wide range of specialties including cardiac, ECMO, liver, medical, oncology, renal, surgery, neuro and trauma.


If you are an experienced (6 months post qualifying), paediatric, adult or neonatal nurse we would welcome your application. No critical care experience is necessary. We provide a fantastic 18 month educational Foundation Programme; however, depending on your qualifications and experience, fast track is available for leadership and development opportunities.


As an experienced band 5 (6 months plus), your job will be:

  • To provide high quality care for the child and family in a safe and professional environment.
  • Family integrated care is promoted by working in partnership with the child and family.
  • All staff will be supported in order to develop professional expertise in Paediatric critical care.
  • Professional development will support NMC and mandatory requirements and meet service need.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse - Full NMC PIN

Desirable

  • Recognised Paediatric Intensive Care qualification
  • First degree
  • Course in Mentoring and assessing in clinical practice or equivalent

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential

  • At least 6 months post registration experience
  • Experience working with families
  • Willingness to participate fully with PICU Foundation Programme and consolidation

Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge

Essential

  • Punctual and flexible across hours of work when required

Personal Skills/Abilities and Attributes

Essential

  • Must demonstrate good health and attendance at work and be able to work a range of shifts spanning the 24 clock.
  • Must be able to stand/walk around bed space for long periods

Other Requirements

Desirable

  • Experience working with the public
