In light of national policy and due to the needs of the business it may be necessary for the Partnership to alter the opening hours of the surgeries. This could incorporate different opening hours and weekend working which may affect when you are required to work. The post holder is expected to be flexible and accommodating, following consultation, in terms of any changes to operating times in the future.

Midlands Medical Partnership is a Birmingham super-partnership currently caring for 72,000 Birmingham Cross-City CCG patients across North and South Birmingham operating out of 10 sites. This dynamic partnership with a team of over 200 clinicians and staff is managed by a single executive board, with centralised organisational functions, strong leadership and clinical governance structures.

Job responsibilities

This new role provides a unique opportunity for an experienced practice nurse within the to embark on a period of development within Midlands Medical Partnership.

The post will consist of the following components:

  1. Participation in an induction program including undertaking the Fundamentals of GPN course at BCU.
  2. Participating in BSol STP Early Career General Practice Fellowship (CPD, peer support, leadership development, PCN engagement)
  3. Exposure to working in General Practice and gaining competence and skills as a new GPN
  4. Within the university component, attendance at face-to-face days is essential and a commitment to self-directed study is expected. Learning action plans and goals to be achieved will be agreed upon between the university staff, the practice staff, and the post holder.
  5. Within the Fellowship component, full participation in peer support, CPD, and a commitment to developing leadership qualities is expected.
  6. Within the clinical component, specific clinical support and supervision will be agreed upon between the MMP Nurse Leadership Team and the post holder. Roles and responsibilities will evolve over time.

2. Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Fundamentals of GPN and Fellowship components:

  1. Attend University for required face-to-face sessions and engage in required self-directed study to meet deadlines and assessments as required.
  2. Ensure learning in the classroom setting is translated into the workplace environment.
  3. Identify where insight into specific areas will contribute to learning and negotiate with the practice team to support.
  4. Engage with university assessors and clinical supervisors to maximise the potential for learning and development.
  5. Attend and participate in monthly peer support meetings.
  6. Agree and meet with fellowship link for 1:1s as negotiated locally.
  7. Agree on Project objectives with fellowship support and produce a plan to meet the required goals.
  8. Complete SSSA training and prepare to be student nurse ready.
  9. Be an advocate for general practice nursing using every opportunity to raise awareness of the specialty.
  10. The post holder will deliver high quality, compassionate care and display attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values and in line with the NMC code of conduct.
  11. Participate in supervision and de-brief with senior supporting nurse.
  12. Seek appropriate support to gain insight into specific clinical areas that will contribute to learning.
  13. Participate in practice-based team meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, and nurse meetings contributing to these as appropriate.
  14. Engage in reflective practice, learning from constructive feedback and maximising potential for learning.
  15. Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements.

Administrative and professional responsibilities

  1. Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the surgery team.
  2. Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients' notes on the clinical computer systems as appropriate.
  3. Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the surgery.
  4. Take the lead in infection prevention and control in the surgery.
  5. Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.
  6. Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  7. Assist in the formation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy and develop appropriate protocols.
  8. Maintain a notice board in the waiting room area designated for patient health care education.
  9. Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the surgery, with regard to confidentiality.
  10. Maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development.
  11. The post holder will participate in any training program implemented by the practice as part of this employment.
  12. To participate in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development.
  13. Take responsibility for own development, learning, and performance and demonstrates skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

3. Other Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  1. To comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
  2. To take responsibility for their own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their own acts or omissions.
  3. To ensure all staff are fully trained and conversant with fire regulations and health and safety and understand what to do in an emergency.
  4. Ensure a trained first aider is available in the building.
  5. Ensure fire alarms are tested regularly and within the set guidelines.

Risk Management and Clinical Governance

To work within the Clinical Governance Framework of the practice, incorporating Risk Management and all other quality initiatives and all aspects of CQC implementation.

To maintain the confidentiality of information relating to patients, clients, staff, and other users of the services in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 including outside of the work environment. Any breach of confidentiality may render an individual liable for dismissal and/or prosecution.

Safeguarding

Whilst in the post, staff are expected to acquire and update their knowledge on safeguarding as per the intercollegiate document requirements and MMP policies.

General
