Responsibilities

We have an opportunity for an Executive Underwriter - Surety to join our team! You will be responsible for producing and underwriting new and renewal business from assigned agents / brokers in the primary line of business. This position involves both outside and inside business development and includes direct responsibility for agency development and management within a book of business.

Key functions include but are not limited to:

  • Underwrite, assess, and manage surety program needs within a portfolio of active accounts
  • Effectively evaluate bond forms and contract documents in an effort to assess risk
  • Develop and leverage productive agency / client relationships through a high level of visibility with agents, brokers, and clients in support of business objectives
  • Plan and execute effective regular travel to develop and enhance new and existing producer and account relationships
  • Effectively communicate the mission and objectives of Berkley Surety in account meetings with confident, clear communication
  • Document and maintain accurate account information in our information systems, on a timely basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 7-10+ years of Surety underwriting experience
  • Banking or Credit Analysis background is a plus
  • Ability to read, analyze, discuss, and interpret financial statements, bond forms, contract documents, and government regulations and reach appropriate risk assessment conclusions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to write clear and effective reports and business correspondence so that others will clearly understand the content and the intent
  • Ability to provide well-developed recommendations in support of new and existing accounts, as well as client bond needs
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Self-motivation and an outgoing orientation with strong customer focus

  • Base Salary Range: $125,000 - $180,000
  • Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus
