Job Description
As a member of DTCC General Counsel's Office and reporting to the Head of Legal – EMEA, the Executive Director General Counsel will provide legal support and advice to DTCC's businesses in EMEA. The core activities will involve operating as EMEA legal counsel to senior management, taking ownership of legal and regulatory advice, and identifying legal risks to design and implement measures to control those risks. This role requires autonomy while utilizing support from a distributed team.
Responsibilities
Provide accurate, timely, and commercial advice on legal and regulatory topics under English and EU law, particularly for new business initiatives.
Manage legal issues across regulated and unregulated businesses in EMEA.
Serve as a key contact for legal issues, engaging with Compliance, Product, Tech, Operations, Sales, and Commercial teams.
Collaborate on reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of business contracts while balancing commercial objectives with risk management.
Conduct horizon scanning to devise effective solutions with Legal, Compliance, and Management.
Maintain sound governance practices and monitor the efficiency of controls.
Support the Head of Legal – EMEA and Compliance team in maintaining relationships with regulators.
Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams across the Americas and APAC for a consistent approach to legal issues.
Support continuous improvement of agreements, contract processes, and legal policies.
Assist in audits and examinations related to DTCC's businesses.
Handle other legal matters or ad-hoc projects as requested.
Deliver training programs on legal and industry-specific risks.
Provide regular updates to the Head of Legal – EMEA.
Foster a risk management culture through effective processes and procedures.
Qualifications
12+ years PQE (indicative only) or related experience.
Qualified Lawyer (LLB or equivalent).
Additional Qualifications
Significant experience as a practicing lawyer, preferably in financial services.
Experience advising on legal issues affecting technology-based businesses.
Experience with a broad range of corporate and commercial matters.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
