Working Pattern: As an employer that supports flexible working, we will consider part-time or compressed working requests, though these will be reviewed on a case by case basis and dependent on the role requirements.
Location: Hybrid working. Your contractual base will be either Meadowbank House, Edinburgh EH8 7AU or St Vincent Plaza, Glasgow G2 5LD. You will be required to visit one of these locations for in-person activities but will have the choice to work remotely in a pattern agreed with your line manager. It is anticipated that the role will require approximately 2 days a week in-person at Meadowbank House, however reasonable adjustments will be considered.

About this Role:
This role is focused on providing support to the Customer and Business Development Directorate by leading strategic projects, monitoring the directorate strategic plan and managing people and finance planning. In addition, the role holder will line manage a small team providing support to the wider senior team to ensure effective delivery.

Main duties:

  • Provide business support to the Customer and Business Development Director. This includes developing presentations, writing governance papers and completing research reviews on behalf of the Director and CBD. In addition, you will be a key point of contact for stakeholders who require direction or guidance from a CBD perspective. You will also attend meetings and workshops to contribute on behalf of CBD ensuring key information is shared and actions are captured.
  • Lead strategic people and finance planning for the directorate, working with the senior team on a unified planning and monitoring approach. This involves analysing and presenting on a multi-year budget, confidently reviewing finance data to provide assurance and narrative on the finance position. This also includes being the Directorate BLO (Budget Liaison Officer).
  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Management Office (PMO) to develop the directorate Strategic Plan and lead on analysing and communicating insights to ensure delivery of our critical path.
  • Lead strategic projects as required to coordinate or implement improvements or changes in support of the CBD Directorate’s objectives.
  • Coordinate and communicate strategic, people, finance and operational performance information.
  • Lead and manage the Customer and Business Development directorate support office, line managing a small team of admin support officers.

Essential criteria - Your Skills and Attributes for Success
Technical/Experience
  • A relevant qualification (for example in Finance or Business Management), or substantial experience in relevant roles e.g. Business Manager, Project Manager, Stakeholder Engagement.
  • Strong and tested analytical skills in deriving timely insights from a range of information sources.
  • Excellent people skills – able to work with a wide range of individuals to gather, analyse and communicate planning and performance information.
  • Ability to influence change confidently and credibly.
  • Experience of service, operational, resource and/or strategic planning in a multi-disciplinary organisation with the ability to problem solve to achieve strategic planning objectives.
  • Highly self-organised. Ability to work to frequent deadlines to a high standard while maintaining progress on longer term objectives. Experience in Project Management or willingness to learn Project Management methodologies and frameworks.
  • MS Office suite proficiency.
  • Experience with GenAI or willingness to learn about how to leverage GenAI.

Assessment
Candidates will be assessed against the essential criteria for the role and competencies as stated above. We will invite suitable candidates to an assessment centre week commencing 27 January 2025 (and most likely assess on the 30 & 31 ), though this is subject to confirmation.

Assessments will include a competency-based interview and an exercise, details of which will be shared with candidates who successfully make it through the sift stage. We will be assessing candidates in person at our Meadowbank house office located in Edinburgh city centre.
