About the role
London Assembly and secretariat

The London Assembly scrutinises the Mayor's activities by questioning the Mayor about their decisions. The Assembly also investigates issues of importance to London.

There are 25 Assembly Members, elected every four years at the same time as the Mayor. The Secretariat works for the Assembly to support its activities. The Communications Team support service to promote the work of the Assembly through press office, social media, publicity and events.

About the role

The Events Officer will support the development, logistics and delivery of London Assembly events. He/She will also provide project-management support to the London Assembly events programme.

Events will include:

  • Major events and community events (e.g., 25th Anniversary events, Remembrance Event, Holocaust Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day, memorial events, People’s Question Time etc)
What your day will look like

You will be busy, as this is the 25th Anniversary year of the London Assembly.

  • Work with colleagues in the Assembly Communications team on the London Assembly events programme, and other events to be delivered or supported by the GLA.
  • Manage, research and organise Assembly Member visits to various stakeholder initiatives, facilitate roundtable events with Committee Members and industry specialists and manage all Assembly events to ensure they run smoothly and to the highest standard.
  • Regularly communicate with Assembly stakeholder groups and keep them informed and up to date with Committee investigations, reports and submissions.
  • Develop, manage, produce and deliver events projects ensuring that relevant managers are briefed on key issues.
  • Have a good understanding and political experience of establishing effective monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Take responsibility for project managing some smaller events or components of larger events, including reaching costing and budgeting for these activities.
  • Maintain appropriate budget and finance records across a range of events; and supporting other team members to ensure all activities are effectively planned, delivered to the critical path and evaluated.
Skills, knowledge and experience

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Significant experience in project management including initiating and setting up projects; planning, executing plans and managing deadlines; and monitoring, controlling and closing down projects. This should include maintaining budget records, tracking expenditure against agreed budgets and contract management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues involved in managing indoor and outdoor events to ensure successful delivery of agreed outcomes.
  • A high level of expertise in the operation of standard office information and communication technology applications, including project management tools; e-mail; and word processing, spreadsheet, database systems and presentation software.
  • Displays knowledge of policies and legislation around events planning, including health and safety aspects like crowd control, GDPR, etc.

THIS IS A POLITICALLY RESTRICTED ROLE under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
