Job description

Walk For A Cure is an event for everyone impacted by dementia. A cure is within our grasp, together we can make it happen. In supporting this event, volunteers will be creating a platform through which friends & family can gather, share and make a lasting difference to dementia for future generations.

What you will be doing

Specifically, at this event, your role could be:

  • Greeter- welcoming walkers to the event village, generating a positive atmosphere, and helping to bring a warm personality to the day's event.
  • Route and/or Start/Finish Marshal- guiding walkers along the route, ensuring safety of walkers at crossings and junctions. Or supporting the start and handing out water and medals at the finish.
  • Event Village- helping with arrival and registration, handing out lanyards, t-shirts, and supporting event village activities, e.g. assisting with public engagement stalls/stands.
  • Photographer- capturing action shots to showcase the feel of the event (in multiple locations).Photographers may be required to marshal alongside this role.

Sunday 29 June, 9am-2pm Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham

Who

All volunteers must be 18+.

Under 18s are welcome to accompany you but remain your responsibility during the event.

The skills you need

  • Passion for the cause of Alzheimer's Research UK.
  • People skills; an enjoyment of working with others.
  • An organised team player and good communicator.

Route marshals will require a reasonable level of general fitness to walk (unaided) to the furthest point on the 5k route (if required). All volunteer duties are based outside, so you will need to be comfortable in the outdoors and enthusiastic in all weather.
