Job description

The Launch Management System Design Authority is responsible for ensuring the technical development of, certification sign-off and in-service support for the Launch Management System (LMS) on two major programmes, Sea Ceptor and Land Ceptor.

Salary: £49,000 - £65,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3-4 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The Opportunity

The Launch Management System (LMS) is a critical component in ensuring the safe and secure launch of missiles from our Weapon Systems. The LMS Design Authority is responsible for ensuring the technical development of, certification sign-off and in-service support for the Launch Management System (LMS) on two major programmes, Sea Ceptor and Land Ceptor.

By building on and maintaining a complex structure of functional and physical design, you will ensure every aspect of the product can be verified, validated and accepted into the Weapon System capability by our Customers. In this role, you will be expected to have a high level of engagement across a variety of technical aspects, including system design, software engineering, electronics and mechanical engineering, in-service reliability and support, safety, cybersecurity and other disciplines. In addition, you will need to ensure the hardware and software design continues to evolve in order to meet the demand of the overall system capability expected by our customers.

The LMS Design Authority will be supported in their career development goals and will ensure expertise are maintained within the team to promote the design goals required of the team and wider MBDA organisation.

If you have experience or are interested in developing your skills in the following areas, this role may be for you:

  • Design leadership for a complex electronics subsystem
  • Manage technical risks and opportunities in line with product development requirements
  • Developing strong relationships with Product Design stakeholders
  • Mastering Systems engineering principles, processes and practices
  • Requirements engineering at System, Subsystem or Component level to enable evolution of the product design and system certification
  • Broad knowledge associated with the design and build of hardware and software for computer based electronics equipment
  • Ability to validate test procedures required to verify products and gather evidence to enable certification.
