National Grid is hiring EPC Project Managers for our Strategic Infrastructure Team. We have a number of roles available in the Midlands, London and East Anglia.

About the role

We’re working towards delivering a number of large-scale infrastructure projects within the SI Onshore Business Unit building HV substations, Overhead lines and cables works. These projects are a mix of early stages of development, delivery and project assessment via ASTI regulatory process. The schemes present an ideal opportunity to give something back to society in delivering our net zero ambition and engage with OFGEM to gain regulatory approval.

We are looking for EPC project managers to support the delivery of this project and these roles require a hybrid working approach with a mix of home, site and office working.

What you'll do

  1. You will develop/support, sanction, and deliver the optimal solution, ensuring best value to the consumer.
  2. Lead/Support the investment process during pre-construction, delivery and closure for projects of varying complexity ensuring governance is maintained throughout.
  3. Ensure internal and contractor compliance with Health & Safety, COM & Environmental legislation as well as adherence to National Grid SHES standards.
  4. Enact/Support the role of Client's Delegated Representative and where appropriate, Principle Designer or arrange for the provision of Principle Designer for each project as required under COM Regulations.
  5. Assess the need and where required appoint Front End Engineering Design (FEED) support. Monitor and control their activities to provide an optimal compliant solution in a timely manner.
  6. Be working as part of a team with other Project Managers and Lead Project Managers.
  7. Support the Senior Project Manager in the engagement of OFGEM to seek appropriate level of funding. Providing information and composing briefing and regulatory documents to support project assessment.
  8. Provide regular project status reports giving accurate financial forecasting, SHESQ performance, milestone progress & risk management data.
  9. Drive customer and stakeholder satisfaction through positive engagement working pro-actively to avoid issues. Supported by a matrix organisation manage third party issues, land, consents, grantors, public relations, and local community stakeholder relationships to preserve National Grid's reputation.


What you'll need

  1. This is a project management role responsible for the delivery of complex high value projects. As such you will be able to demonstrate project development and delivery experience of schemes safely, on time and to budget.
  2. As Project Manager, you will support and mentor the team to develop capability and ensure resilience.
  3. You’ll have proficient knowledge of the application of CDM.
  4. You’ll have proficient knowledge of NEC/EPC contracts.
  5. Knowledge of substations or overhead lines is advantageous.
  6. Knowledge of UK transmission system engineering is advantageous.

  1. Salary of £52,000 - £62,000 dependant on experience and capability.
  2. Market supplement of £4.5k per annum.
  3. Annual Performance Based Bonus.
  4. 37 hour working week.
  5. Hybrid working model between Home, Site and Office.

  7. 26 days annual leave, plus eight statutory days.
