Pay: $18.00/hr.

Location: Off-Campus, Fort Worth, Texas

The City of Fort Worth Water Utility is seeking one (1) student to work as a Regulatory Environmental Intern. This is an Off-Campus position. The Intern will work with our Regulatory Environmental section to assist in providing support to the upcoming Lead and Copper Rule, legislative bill review, and other tasks assigned as it relates to compliance for the Water Utility. The intern will have bi-weekly conversations and evaluations with their supervisor.

Key Details:

  • No student shall be appointed to work in excess of nineteen (19) hours per week.
  • Transportation for students will not be provided by the Agency or the University.
  • The incumbent must be enrolled in a formal course of college related field of study and cannot be in the position longer than 12 months.

Students will also have an opportunity to develop new or expanded practical application of Regulatory Environmental skills through cross-functional teams to ensure continuous compliance of regulatory activities, regularly communicate and provide progress updates to keep the team informed; exceptional organizational, project management, and mentoring from water professionals who will aid in the skill level development of the intern.

In addition to helping the student receive practical application of their classroom academic skills, we can assist the student with interpersonal growth in building skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and understanding the benefits of a growth mindset, all while they are receiving real-world experience for their program area of study. We believe students will find the experience beneficial, useful, and up to date. Our hope for the student is they come to understand that by participating in the Water Utility Regulatory Environmental internship program they will find a rewarding experience, and a very advantageous way of possible employment with the City of Fort Worth Water Utility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • No previous work experience is required.
  • Working towards a specialization in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate's degree from an accredited college or university with good academic standing and major course work in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Engineering, Environmental Science or Public Health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skills in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.

The Environmental Regulatory Intern will have exposure to the following job duties:

Regulatory Support:

  • Work on regulatory activities.
  • Work in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Regularly communicate and provide progress updates to keep team informed on continuous compliance requirements as assigned.
  • Using MS Excel, support data-gathering for reports to senior management.

Regulatory Activities:

  • Demonstrate ability to coordinate and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure timely, clear communication to internal stakeholders on bill status and issues.
  • Exhibit the ability to interpret complex bills and think critically about their applicability.
  • Demonstrate good organization skills and time management skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple bills at one time and adhere to timelines.
  • Ability to support department by communicating effectively.
  • Ability to research Texas Administrative Code (TAC) History.
  • Manage issues proactively and resolve conflict.
