Job description

What will I be doing as an EIR Advisor?

  • To assist with the implementation, review and continuous improvement of SUEZ recycling and recovery UK’s (SUEZ UK) integrated management systems (IMS) in line with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Provision and review of policies and procedures to ensure they meet SUEZ UK compliance obligations including legislation, industry best practice, group standards and contractual requirements as necessary.
  • Maintain, review, and improve environmental and quality policies, IMS policy manual, environmental aspects and legal registers including tracking and communications on key changes in legislation and other requirements affecting the scope of the IMS.
  • Provide a national focal point for the annual surveillance and any extensions to scope of SUEZ UK’s IMS for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation.
  • Ensure alignment of integrated management systems with Energy Operation Management Systems (OMS) and site-specific management systems.
  • Provide a national focal point for EIR best practice, providing advice, guidance, support and recommendations to the EIR department and operational teams to ensure a process of continual improvement and help ensure activities are undertaken in line with our compliance obligations as identified within the policies and procedures with SUEZ UK’s IMS.
  • Assist on carbon and energy efficiency reporting and data collation for the annual sustainability report, streamline energy carbon report (SECR), energy savings and opportunities scheme (ESOS), UK renewable energy statistics (restats), and pollution inventory reporting.
  • Support waste classification processes and systems across the business including roll out of revised Waste Code Structure and preparation for digital waste tracking.
  • Provide reports, guidance and training material where required to inform internal and external stakeholders.
  • To support and project lead on key continuous improvement projects relating to governance and reporting within the EIR department and wider business.

What are the requirements/qualifications?

  • Degree or equivalent in Environmental Sciences, or alternative environmental qualifications (WAMITAB etc).
  • Professional membership of relevant bodies to keep up to date with the latest standards.
  • At least three years' knowledge of Management Systems is essential (writing, reviewing and maintaining). Environment permits require all activities to be undertaken to ‘best available techniques’ (BAT) and thus the post holder needs to keep abreast of changes within all activities of the industry and to ensure sustained accreditation to ISO 9000, and 14000 and standards.
  • A detailed understanding of project management approaches. The work requires good project management skills to ensure the correct information is provided within the statutory timescales.
  • Knowledge of legal reporting requirements for example waste return, energy efficiency, permit requirements
