Environmental Health Officer

Sharper Consulting Services are working on behalf of our local authority client in Kent in their search of an Environmental Health Officer/Private Sector Housing Officer.

You will play an integral role in enforcement, grants, and energy efficiency initiatives across the borough.

Duties

1. Investigate complaints, conduct HHSRS inspections, and enforce housing standards.
2. License and regulate HMOs, ensuring safety and compliance.
3. Deliver Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) and financial assistance to improve housing conditions.
4. Work with landlords, tenants, and partners to tackle substandard housing and reduce empty homes.
5. Take legal action where necessary, including serving notices and prosecuting non-compliance.
6. Lead caravan site licensing and enforce minimum energy efficiency standards.
7. Provide expert housing advice and contribute to policy development.

About You

1. BSc/MSc in Environmental Health + HHSRS Certificate
2. Experience in housing enforcement, HMO licensing, and grants processing
3. Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
4. Ability to manage a busy caseload and work both independently & within a team
5. Full UK driving license and willingness to work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours duties
