The H&S Area Lead ensures exemplary safety standards across a defined project area, managing HSE Advisors, analyzing risks, advising construction teams, conducting inspections, and engaging in regulatory compliance within infrastructure services.

The purpose of the Health and Safety (H&S) Area Lead is to provide H&S leadership across a significant scope of works.

Suitable candidates must be willing to undergo CTC clearance or be CTC cleared already.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • The purpose of the H&S Area Lead is to fully support the deputy Head of HSE by leading and ensuring exemplary Health and Safety standards on the project are consistently met.
  • The Area H&S Lead is appointed to manage a specific area within the area management model.
  • The Area H&S Lead directly manages a team of HSE Advisors allocated to their area.
  • The role will be responsible for the deliverables of the allocated H&S Advisor field team.
  • The role holder will support construction deliverables by advising the construction teams on best practice and assisting in the maintenance of the overall HSE management system.
  • The role is primarily focused on H&S leading indicators including analyzing information, trends from reports and observations, and then taking corrective measures prior to events occurring.
  • The role will engage with Construction teams throughout the planning and delivery of the scope of works ensuring lessons learnt are actioned to provide the highest H&S performance.
  • The H&S Area Lead will carry out HSE inspections across the defined area and undertake additional tasks as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post.
  • The role will provide competent specialist advice on identified topics, subject to the role holder’s area of expertise.
Experience Required
  • Construction background with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to explain HSE procedures and expectations to a range of people.
  • Working knowledge of the Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Experience of interactions with Regulators, presenting and hosting site visits.
  • Suitable site experience in a similar role, preferably in the construction or nuclear industry.
  • Basic understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
  • An investigative mind and a keen eye for detail.
  • Ideally experience of Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Scaffolding & Coatings.
Qualifications Needed
  • Chartered IOSH Member or working towards Chartership.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
