Job description

Are you an Otolaryngologist / Ear Nose and Throat specialist looking for a great balance of interesting work and excellent lifestyle? Then look no further than Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. A place where we value He kauanuanu– Respect; Ākina– Improvement; Rāranga te tira– Teamwork; Tauwhiro– Care.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply for a permanent position in a stunning area of New Zealand with a Mediterranean climate.

Our local health sector is undergoing innovative expansion and modification with new public and private operating theatres and other facilities under construction. As an employee of Te Whatu Ora, the New Zealand national public health system, you will be part of a collaborative team of five ENT specialists providing high quality care, improving equity and health outcomes for our local population, with a high Māori and Pasifika population. The team is supported by two registrars, a house officer and four Clinical Specialist Nurses. The department is well equipped for all aspects of modern ENT health care.

There are many opportunities to develop subspecialist interests that will complement the department’s current service, with high levels of unmet need in our community. We also have close ties with allied health departments, other specialities that we interact with, as well as regional and tertiary services to provide a comprehensive package of care. The department also provides medical education for undergraduate students and postgraduates.

The hospital is situated in Hastings, New Zealand, a region of over 162,000 people. The hospital is a modern facility with a large range of surgical, medical, oncology and radiological services. As an ENT specialist you will be delivering outpatient services from new premises located in the buzz of Ahuriri, Napier, a short walk from the marina with its restaurants and shopping. It is 20 minutes by car from the Hastings hospitals. The majority of our elective surgery is performed in Kaweka Hospital, a brand-new, purpose-built surgical centre next to the public hospital.

It is anticipated that, once settled you may also want to work in the private sector in a part time capacity alongside the current ENT specialists.

Remuneration will consist of:

  • Qualification and experience step alignment with the ASMS MECA
  • On-call allowances
  • Employer matched Superannuation contributions of up to 6% of annual earnings
  • Relocation package including removal costs, flights, accommodation and car hire*
  • Reimbursement of:
    • Annual Practicing Certificate costs
    • Medical Defence Assurance fees
    • College Membership Fees
    • Study and conference leave*
  • $1,000,000 Life/disability cover whilst travelling on company business as per company policy*

Hawke’s Bay is famous for its excellent seaside ‘Mediterranean’ climate, wine, food, cultural events and outdoor recreational activities. There is a strong sense of community. It is a wonderful place to raise children with a number of excellent schools that receive national recognition. The area offers an enviable lifestyle with a choice of urban or rural living, and little traffic congestion.
