Job title: Engineering Manager – Systems Engineering (Automotive & Multi-Sector)

Location: Hybrid – Home/ EES Solutions Office / Customer Office when required

Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager reports directly to the Head of Projects and Engineering and is responsible for leading engineering teams, overseeing project delivery, and ensuring technical excellence across a range of industries, with a primary focus on automotive alongside rail, defence, marine, energy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The role involves supporting engineering operations, driving process improvements, and contributing to the development of systems engineering tools and methodologies. The Engineering Manager will also collaborate with commercial and business development teams by providing technical insight into project requirements and helping to shape engineering capabilities in response to client and market needs.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Project Delivery:
  • Lead and support the engineering team, ensuring alignment with company objectives and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Manage resource allocation effectively across multiple projects, ensuring teams are appropriately staffed and meeting key milestones.
  • Oversee the execution of engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and to high quality standards.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for clients, helping to understand their needs and ensuring that engineering solutions align with project requirements.
  • Provide input into system design, development, and problem-solving, ensuring solutions are robust, compliant, and fit for purpose.
Systems Engineering & Technical Capability Development:
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for systems engineering processes and best practices within the business.
  • Develop and implement systems engineering methodologies, including work breakdown structures, process improvements, and training programmes.
  • Define and communicate engineering capabilities through case studies, skillset development, and knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance engineering expertise in automotive, defence, rail, marine, energy, cybersecurity, and AI sectors.
Innovation & Process Improvement:
  • Support intellectual property (IP) identification and technical innovation within the company.
  • Assist in securing technical grants and funding to advance research and development efforts.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in engineering workflows and project execution.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Client Support:
  • Work closely with sales, business development, and operations teams to ensure technical requirements are well understood and accurately represented in project planning.
  • Contribute engineering expertise to client discussions, ensuring projects are feasible and aligned with company capabilities.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration, ensuring smooth communication between technical and commercial teams.
Talent Development & Recruitment:
  • Support the professional growth and skill development of engineering team members.
  • Collaborate with the People Department to attract, recruit, and onboard high-quality engineering talent, particularly in the automotive sector.
Experience Required:
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience, preferably in automotive or a related sector.
  • Proven ability to lead engineering teams and deliver complex engineering projects.
Experience :
  • Prior engineering management experience within the automotive, rail, defence, marine, or energy sectors.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams on multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
Skills Required:
  • Strong technical leadership and team management skills, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities to address engineering challenges.
  • Effective communication skills for working with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Solid project management expertise to oversee complex engineering projects efficiently.
Skills :
  • Knowledge of automotive systems engineering, including powertrain, e-mobility, functional safety, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
  • Experience with automotive standards and compliance, such as ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), ASPICE, and Cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, AI, and adjacent technologies applicable to automotive and other industries.
Education Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
