Engineering Manager (Design) - HV Resilience Project - Sheffield based - PAYE contract

Accountable to the Head of Engineering, the Engineering Manager is responsible for engineering management, oversight and challenge of third-party professional teams' and contractors' design solutions.

Responsibilities

1. The Engineering Manager (EM) assists the Project Manager in ensuring the successful delivery of all engineering aspects of the project.
2. Establish a safety-focused design gated process and define engineering lifecycle maturity gates, with targets aligned to the project's objectives and documented in the Project Engineering Management Plan.
3. Provide guidance to the Project Manager on engineering risks and create strategies to mitigate them.
4. Implement and control the design configuration, ensuring it is properly declared and maintained through authorized changes.
5. Develop the design scope and support the creation of a strategy and plan to deliver the engineering elements of the project.
6. Oversee the production of designs by sub-consultants.
7. Ensure that design reviews, optioneering workshops, and value engineering workshops are conducted as per the Project Engineering Management Plan.
8. Continuously review and update requirement plans as the design evolves, supporting the maturity and achievability of the requirements through formal reviews in line with the safety-led gated engineering process.
9. Develop and execute design strategies and plans that align with the overall project strategy.
10. Deliver engineering solutions, designs, specifications, instructions, and documentation that meet safety, legal, quality, and technical requirements, while being cost-effective and timely.
11. Identify any gaps in technical knowledge and capability for the project and create targeted plans to address them.
12. Ensure that design reviews are conducted at key stages in the lifecycle, with at least one review per year.
13. Select a panel of independent reviewers with subject matter expertise.
14. Ensure that issues identified during design reviews, which may impact other projects, are formally addressed, and contribute to the Lessons Learned and Feedback (LFE) process.
15. Approve the design review minutes, confirming any recommendations or actions, and ensure that they are implemented.
16. Conduct audits of design consultants.
