Position: Marine Engineers (X2)
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne
Contract: Fully Site based (with some flexibility for home working when not required on site)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 12 Months + Rolling contract
Rate: Inside IR35 £45 + Per hour
Core Hours: 7am - 10pm (Some shift and weekend work 1/4) with uplifted/on-call rates
You will assist in the achievement of the Marine Department's objectives by understanding customer engineered products, components, or systems to meet customer manufacturing and testing requirements within contract budgets, timescales, and project quality standards. Work includes giving technical support, e.g., answering queries, failure investigations, problem solving, as well as detailed review of customer drawings to support manufacturing and purchasing requirements.
Scope of Work
- Execute technical work packages
- Check all own work and approve work packages as identified by senior staff
- Contribute to the planning and reporting of projects and tasks
- Interface with other local and Network Partners, as required
- Input to customer and supplier interface issues, meetings, and documentation
- Contribute to quality and continuous improvement activities
- Responsible for personal training and development with support from senior staff
- Provide technical input to Section Manager and other members of the Engineering or Marine Projects team
- Check all work is suitable for the purpose and carried out correctly, in line with valid rules, tools, and procedures
- Issue specifications, manufacturing data, design methods, technical advice only with the approval of the Section Manager or their nominees
- Report all potential and actual non-conformances to senior staff for review/action, such as deviations from tender, development, contract specification, or design rule
Duties & Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for executing engineering workload to drive the delivery of customer designed components
- Decide the appropriate breakdown of assemblies to allow individual parts to be manufactured in-house or outsourced, including allocation of material parts & sizes
- Support in-house manufacturing through extended working hours managed on a rotational shift basis
- Review drawings against customer quality and scope documents to determine the correct sub-tier supplier flow down
- Review drawings against several other databases to determine the correct industry material, past technical, commercial or supply issues, and past lessons learned to ensure that they are correctly applied to new or updated drawings
- Report any issues or conflicts to Marine Projects
- Review drawing for manufacturability issues (e.g., tolerances, welding configuration, tooling access, etc.) and report to Marine Projects
- Review spares requirements based on past issues, drawing/part application, and assembly team recommendations
- Develop and support the design manufacturing aids such as test equipment, lifting aids, and manufacturing tools
- Support development of product assembly methodology, including method of manufacture documentation reviews & approvals
- Support the Marine Project risk reviews
- Review manufacturing records for acceptance to drawings or specifications such as clearances, test parameters, and inspection results
- Respond & support the Marine Projects and Supply Chain teams for technical and quality manufacturing issue resolution, including root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions development using the appropriate reporting tools
Experience
3 to 5 years (which may include an appropriate graduate training programme) in an engineering service company, working in engineering, commercial, procurement, site erection or commissioning activities.
Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering or Design Background within the team
- Knowledge of the power market sector or rotating equipment
- A relevant Engineering or Scientific degree, or equivalent relevant experience
- Computer literacy; SAP would be advantageous
- Preferably working towards membership of a professional body and chartered status desirable but not essential
