We have a current opportunity for an Energy Manager on a contract basis. It will be circa 4 months initially as the current Energy Manager is moving on. This is a possible temp to perm Energy Manager role. As this is a temp role, you will not need to cover all of these duties so please contact me if this is of interest but you don't fully match the brief.

Role Summary

The Energy Manager will work to the Head of Compliance and Sustainability as part of the Compliance and Sustainability team. The principal purpose of the job is to lead on shaping the University's energy strategy, its roadmap to net carbon zero and their implementation across the institution and wider community.

The role will also be responsible for:

Ensuring the provision of high quality information that will underpin utility management and decarbonisation. This will ensure that, as an organisation we, not only retain our ISO14001 accreditation and reduce our carbon footprint but continue to improve our energy performance.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Utility Supply Management
  • The management and operation of the systems used to obtain data from the meters at our sites (both our own sub-meters and supplier meters).
  • Working with the energy broker, to procure contracts for the supply of utilities, tendering, presenting results and making recommendations to achieve the best deal for the University.
  • Managing the relationships with utility suppliers and ensure prudent budget management.
  • Assisting in the preparation of utility budgets.
  • Developing and maintaining accurate records of energy consumption information (monitoring and targeting to assist in all of the above).
  • Energy and Water Monitoring / Reporting
  • Reporting on energy and water consumption, costs against budget and carbon data. This should include any exception reports highlighting of variances, an analysis of the reasons why and potential solutions. Complete other reports as required, including HESA data.
  • Using your expert knowledge of the energy and water markets to ensure that all utility invoices are checked / validated in a timely manner and any queries followed up and resolved.
  • Compliance
  • Establish, maintain and improve the necessary systems for providing information required for in house, statutory and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure that all Display Energy Certificates and Energy Performance certificates are renewed as required.
  • Projects
  • Analyse data and identify opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Work with the major capital team to ensure that all new projects utilise renewable technologies.
  • Understand where to access grants and timelines for their availability to allow the University to take advantage. Assist with the preparation of bids.
  • Engagement
  • This is a critical element of the role. The postholder will promote the success of the University both internally and externally by engaging with others including staff, students, visitors, the wider community and external bodies.

Experience

  • Experience of working in an Energy Management based area in a large estate.
  • Experience of using Building Management Systems.
  • Management of significant revenue budgets.
  • Experience of managing large complex data sets.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent organisational, effective communication and presentation skills. Must have the ability to communicate clearly with a variety of audiences.
  • The ability to produce clear written reports, articles.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly with respect to spreadsheets. Ability to manage databases containing energy information.
  • Must have the ability to travel to all sites, including those in Chesterfield, Buxton and Leek.
