Emergency Department Receptionist (Band 3)
To provide a high quality 24 hour efficient and organised reception/administration service within the Emergency Department, ensuring all procedures are adhered to whilst working to the Trust Right Care values.

Main duties of the job
- Reception and documentation of patients attending the Emergency department using the hospital computer system (SystmOne).
- Using own judgement to alert nursing/medical staff regarding patients conditions that may require urgent intervention.
- Checking clinical coding on SystmOne prior to discharging patient records, ensuring any follow up referrals are dealt with in accordance with the appropriate pathway.
- Communicate effectively and sensitively to distressed patients and relatives.
- Able to recognise and diffuse difficult situations as they arise, particularly at busy times, whilst retaining composure and willingness to assist.
- Provide support to the whole of the Urgent Care team and other members of the multi-disciplinary team both internal and external to the Trust.
- General admin duties e.g. filing, dealing with telephone enquiries, scanning etc.
About us
You will be working alongside a team of enthusiastic admin staff, including receptionists, support clerks, secretaries and liaise with the Acute Assessment Unit admin team.
You will be required to be flexible and adaptable as you can be asked to swap shifts on occasions to meet the demands of the service.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- ECDL/CLAIT or equivalent or SystmOne experience.
Experience
- Significant and recent reception/office experience in a health care setting.
- Experience and understanding of confidentiality policies and procedures.
- Experience of working shifts with a flexible approach to work.
- Previous work in a pressurised environment.
- Experience in dealing with distressed patients and relatives.
- Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Understanding the importance of data quality.
- Experience in working a 24/7 shift system, including nights.
