About This Role

We are looking to find an EMEA Head of Training for our Commercial Aviation Training (CAT) centres across Europe. We are looking for a dynamic leader who will report to the Director of Operations & Deputy Accountable Manager for the CAT Approved Training Organisation (ATO). This position holds the delegated authority to ensure that all training activities are delivered in compliance with the ATO approval, defined standard processes, and customer contracts. The Head of Training is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and training quality.

As the Head of Training, you will oversee the management of CAT training delivery through the Managers of Training Services and Training Managers, ensuring excellence across our 16 training centres in Europe.

This role can be based in any of our CAT centres in Europe – ideally Gatwick, Amsterdam, Madrid, Brussels, Copenhagen, Stockholm or Milan - you will need to be prepared to be in the office at least 3 days per week and be flexible to travel 30-35% of your time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent and act on behalf of CAT EMEA from an ATO organization point of view.
  • Lead Regional training delivery functions both under EASA and CAA UK.
  • Demonstrate a solid level of business acumen in balancing training program profitability alongside ensuring high-level of safety and compliant training procedures.
  • Manage team of 6-10 direct reports alongside numerous indirect reports within training organization.
  • Assess if there is an adequate number of suitably qualified training staff available to undertake the required training tasks.
  • Support, supervise, guide and lead the Managers of Training Services in their respective regions.
  • Ensure that all training delivered is in conformance with the ATO OM and TM, and report any discrepancy with the regulations and suggest solutions to the organization.
  • Responsible to help set and report on Training Delivery KPI’s.
  • Lead in developing and optimizing ATO policies and processes.
  • Focal point for ATO training delivery for Operations, Training Center leadership and Managers of Training Services.
  • In conjunction with the Manager of Training Services and Training Managers, ensure that training is carried out in strict adherence to approved Operations and Training Manuals, SOPs and syllabi.
  • In conjunction with the Manager Training Services for CAT, manage all clients training and performance issues.
  • In conjunction with the Training Design function ensure that the training programs and courseware comply with regulatory and CAE standards.
  • In conjunction with the Global Safety, Quality Assurance and the Compliance function promote the compliance and safety culture of the company and SMS and Non-Compliance reporting and act as an SME for the safety team as needed during Safety Action Group Meetings.
  • Build upon and ensure a solid relationship with key customers and action any pilot training concerns they raise.
  • Partner with the Sales Team to assist with potential client needs.
  • Able to travel within Europe for up to roughly 33% of available work time. Occasional international/global travel may be required.
  • Other duties as required by the organization that involve pilot training and ensuring it’s safety and compliance with regulatory bodies.

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and education:

  • Hold or have held in the 3 years prior to first appointment, an EASA and UK Part FCL ATPL license and associated ratings or certificates issued in accordance with Part FCL, related to the flight training courses provided by the ATO.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized educational institution and/or equivalent experience and qualifications.

And the following experience:

  • Extensive experience in training as an instructor for professional pilot licenses and/or associated ratings or certificates relating to their branch.
  • 3 years or more experience as a manager of pilot training at an ATO and/or AOC.
  • Experience of regulatory requirements for all courses delivered in CAT.
  • Sound knowledge of ATO approval procedures and of process driven organizational structure.
