Job description

Climate17 are working with the UK’s leading generator of low-carbon power from captured methane. Their sustainable energy expertise includes solar power and battery energy storage (BESS) technology.

They are looking for an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to provide design, installation, and commissioning expertise to the in-house construction team and EPC contractor, helping to deliver solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, ranging from 5 MW to 70 MW.

You will review and challenge engineering designs to ensure technical compliance, implement cost-effective solutions, and manage the project's progress through to addressing any technical or quality issues with subcontractors. You will attend regular site meetings, adjusting the work programme, and ensuring that project records stakeholders are kept informed.

Responsibilities
  • Specification of up-front project electrical requirements across solar and energy storage systems; review and approval of submitted designs
  • Ensure standardisation of design, equipment and approach across projects and contractors
  • On-site inspections and factory witness testing to ensure electrical Design/build is as per specification/design
  • Review of as-built drawings at project completion to ensure accuracy and completeness, and are handed over in the correct format
  • Review energisation plans & procedures produced by the EPC and its contractors
  • Full commission of all equipment with Electrical Responsibility and Safety
  • Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality at the forefront of all decisions and actions
  • Site inspections to ensure specification and build are to expected standards
  • Oversee electrical handover into operations
  • Engagement with the wider company electrical team
  • Create commissioning checklists for new systems and ensure all aspects of the project are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Capturing and incorporating lessons learned into future projects
Requirements
  • Degree / HND qualified (or equivalent) in an electrical engineering discipline
  • Demonstrable expertise in Low Voltage and High Voltage systems with specific knowledge of equipment utilised in large-scale solar and energy storage systems.
  • Experience working in a safety-driven industry, such as power generation or a related utility or similar organisation.
  • Strong HV/LV switchgear, grid connection, substation and a distribution network operator experience in electrical design and commissioning.
  • Project Engineering experience working on larger projects
  • Challenging Costs, Technical solutions and Schedules to drive the project forward

This hybrid role will require UK site work, some overseas travel for Equipment FATs, and the opportunity to work from home.
