Job Description Summary:

Renantis has partnered with BlueFloat Energy to develop and deliver Offshore Wind Projects across the UK. The Partnership aims to contribute to a world leading floating offshore wind industry in the UK, combining innovative technology with a plan to attract and grow a skilled Scottish workforce and stimulate a thriving local supply chain.

Job Description:

We are looking for an Electrical Package Manager (EPM) to support our 4 floating offshore wind projects in Scotland.

If you are passionate about offshore wind power, particularly floating, and enjoy the unique challenges of a growing business in an emerging industry, this might be the right opportunity for you.

As EPM, you will lead all electrical engineering activities (Onshore/offshore and SCADA) to support the projects in the UK and be responsible for managing the technical and logistical aspects of the projects’ electrical system design definition. You will ensure effective coordination with the team, partners, and suppliers. You will report to the Strategic Grid and Electrical Lead UK and coordinate with Project Managers, updating them regularly regarding the latest developments of the work package including technical scope, suppliers, and interfaces. You will work closely with other package managers and internal and external stakeholders.

You will be joining a dynamic and highly motivated team of passionate energy professionals who have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in executing floating offshore wind projects.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the concept, design, and delivery of the electrical infrastructure (including SCADA) for the UK floating offshore windfarms.
  • Oversee the entire electrical system design covering the offshore inter-array system, export transmission system, and onshore infrastructure.
  • Ensure safety by design in electrical engineering decisions, along with general H&S management of the team.
  • Manage external engineering consultants to deliver specific electrical engineering work.
  • Develop, review, update, modify, and approve electrical design plans of the offshore wind farms.
  • Communication and coordination with other engineering and non-engineering team leaders.
  • Ensure electrical work is delivered on time, on budget with zero errors.
  • Establish relationships with suppliers and other professionals.
  • Prepare, drive, and manage the tendering processes related to the offshore cable systems, electrical equipment, and offshore/onshore substation design.
  • Participate in the research and analysis of electrical equipment design proposals.
  • Develop specifications for the required electrical equipment and technical documentation.
  • Provide input to the definition of the required equipment at the offshore/onshore substation and validate design decisions.
  • Collaborate in the definition of the wind farm layout and analysis of the interconnection solutions.
  • Direct the field operations of the electrical system.
  • Perform detailed engineering review of documentation describing equipment design, and installation and operation procedures.
  • Liaison with the rest of project managers to ensure projects are completed to specifications.
  • Participate in consultations with BEIS, Ofgem, CES, NGESO, or other stakeholders when required by the Strategic Grid and Electrical Lead.
  • Continuously monitor and manage associated risks in relation to potential changes in the design, consenting, and project programme.
  • Participate in technical clarification meetings with other managers and the project board.
  • Provide technical support to commercial discussions for other packages (turbine, foundations, etc.).
  • Contribute to the drafting and negotiation of early works engineering contracts, if required. Update the relevant lines of budgets (DEVEX, CAPEX, OPEX).
  • Line management, performance monitoring, and hiring of the Electrical engineering team.

Essential Criteria:

  • Chartered electrical engineer with degree qualification in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven track record in leading electrical packages and management of consultants and contractors for delivery against time and budget critical scopes of works.
  • Significant experience of delivering Renewable Energy projects, especially offshore wind.
  • Significant HV Electrical experience, including power plant, grid connection, earthing, protection, switchgear, power-electronics, power systems design, and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the offshore wind industry.
  • Current and demonstrable electrical design calculation and specification capabilities.
  • Pro-active and structured with strong analytical skills and a quality-oriented approach to tasks.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in MS Excel/Word/Project and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel both in the UK and abroad.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in written English, and ability to explain technical issues to non-engineers.
  • Ability to influence and motivate stakeholders within a complex environment.
  • Able to collate, analyze, and act upon complex and diverse information from various sources and give advice for project-level decision making.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Recognised Project Management training is an advantage.
  • Ability to build and maintain a network of suppliers and technical partners.
  • Ability to be effective in cross-cultural teams.
  • Knowledge of particular specialist skills, for example:
  • Knowledge of submarine cable and HVDC systems.
