Job Function: Electric Maintenance and Construction

You’ll be a key member of the Wearside team supporting 9 substations/sites and the largest overhaul of the UK electricity grid in generations. Essentially, we’re upgrading the electricity grid so it’s fit for the future. It's BIG work and you will play a BIG part ensuring the lights stay on and society keeps moving.

Pay and Benefits

Starting salary: £38,569 pa including Seasonal Allowance (Pay progression up to £45,058 is based on competence level and gaining of NSI authorisations).

Mechanical and Electrical fitters take on a wide range of duties on Substation plant and equipment. This work is predominantly outdoors and includes installation of new equipment, refurbishment and maintenance of existing equipment, fault investigation and repair, as well as routine condition monitoring in line with commercial targets. You’ll benefit from our industry-leading training at our facilities based in Eakring, Nottinghamshire, and other substation sites. A training programme will be provided which may require occasional stays away from home, with generous mobility and overnight allowances.

You’ll join a team of fitters and work on complex 275kV or 400kV circuit breakers, transformers, high-speed on-load tap changers, and cable systems, plus all kinds of ancillary equipment such as DC battery systems, air compressors, and diesel generators. Throughout the year, there are some requirements for weekend work for which overtime will be paid. We offer on-the-job and formal training opportunities for development to gain authorisations for pay progression.

Key Requirements

  • A minimum Level 2/3 recognized apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering OR an NVQ/Level 3 electrical or mechanical qualification with relevant fitting experience is required
  • You can demonstrate good all-round engineering skills - Key skill areas we look for are working to Safety Procedures, Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Fitting, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Working at Height, Lifting Operations, Panel Wiring, and Fault Finding
  • A Full UK Driving Licence
  • You can use a computer
  • You live within 30 minutes travel from Murton, County Durham, SR7 9DE

Desirable

  • High voltage engineering experience
  • IOSH
