Job description

A great opportunity has arisen for an electrical engineer to join a leading manufacturing company who supply world-class products to various industries including Oil & Gas / Offshore.

Job Description:

1. Manage design projects from initial concept/enquiry through detailed design to manufacturing handover.
2. Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below.
3. Generation of ideas for developments and new products.
4. Be responsible for small projects or sub–sections of larger projects.
5. Produce engineering designs, specifications and documentation to ISO 9001.
6. Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
7. Offsite engineering support for new products.
8. Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals.
9. Provide customer support.
10. Assist in the training of customer operating personnel.
11. Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.
12. Work within the requirements of company procedures and national and international regulations.
13. Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.
14. Instruct, train and mentor subordinate engineering staff.
15. Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.

Beneficial Skills / Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or related/equivalent subject.
2. Electric motor types, designs and specification.
3. Power distribution and protection equipment.
4. Variable speed drives and soft–starts.
5. Wiring distribution systems.
6. Communication systems and protocols (RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, etc).
7. Industrial sensors and equipment.
8. Video distribution, formats, conversion and storage.
9. Fibre optic multiplexers and ancillaries.
10. PCB manufacturing and standards.
11. PCB breadboard prototyping using soldering iron and hand tools.
12. Design of analogue and digital electronic circuits.
13. PCB design using Altium or equivalent.
14. Inspection, testing and certification requirements.
15. Ergonomics.
16. Completing and checking designs and documentation.
17. Design of motor control electronic circuits.
18. Design of electrical power transmission systems.
19. Safety conscious, attentive to QHSE policies and regulations (ISO 9001 QA systems).
20. Sound engineering knowledge.
21. Cost conscious.
22. Technical drawing competence as defined above.
23. Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidiscipline team or individually on projects.
24. Ability to liaise with other members of staff including customers and third parties.
25. Time management with ability to plan workload, multi–task and work under pressure.
26. Ability to problem solve.
27. Good verbal and written communication skills, clear technical writing and good record keeping.
28. Attention to detail and effective checking regime.
29. Software skills: Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD/DraftSight and Altium.
30. Willingness to learn new engineering skills.

Additional Details:

1. 37 hours per week – 8.30am to 4.30pm Mon–Thurs and 8.30am to 4pm Friday (flexi–time is available).
2. 25 days holidays and 8 bank holidays.
3. Based onsite – no hybrid working.
