Job description

Electrical Design Engineer
  • Location: Norwich, Norfolk
  • Job Type: Full-time, Monday to Thursday 8am-4.45pm, Friday 8am-12.30pm
  • Salary: £30,000-£50,000pa dependent on experience

Reed Engineering are working with an amazing engineering company who are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their Electrical Design department. This role is essential for designing and instructing motors and generators that meet specific project requirements and for developing their range of high voltage motors and generators to support business growth into new markets.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Undertake detailed design analysis to maintain or improve the electrical integrity and quality of the product range using in-house developed software, in collaboration with the internal team of Electrical Engineers.
  • Participate actively in the ongoing design and development of the product range, providing technical instructions and advice to other departments including Manufacturing and Test.
  • Implement value engineering principles, design for manufacture, and concurrent engineering techniques in product development.
  • Support Design Draughtsmen in modifying existing production designs and preparing new designs.
  • Provide technical support to the Sales Department, including providing information for quotation purposes and potentially travelling off-site to meet customers.
  • Assist in evaluating technical problems with the installed product base, which may include travel for specific investigations.
  • Recommend improvements to product design rules and software and facilitate their implementation.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
  • Review the Mechanical Design process and its interaction with Electrical Design to optimise product performance.
  • Carry out additional tasks as reasonably requested by the Line Manager.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in the design of capital electrical equipment, including thermal design.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment and managing a heavy workload.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient in planning, organising, and problem-solving to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage simultaneous activities within challenging timescales.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and 2D CAD software.
  • Desirable: Chartered Engineer status and ability to prepare/edit programs in common programming languages (e.g., VB.NET).
