Job description

I'm recruiting on behalf of an innovative engineering company based in Beccles, who are looking to expand their design team with the addition of an experienced Electrical Design Engineer.


Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to define and deliver the electrical design scope for various projects.
  2. Produce electrical schematics and layouts for complex machinery and systems.
  3. Ensure all designs adhere to relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal procedures.
  4. Identify and reduce design-related risks with a strong focus on safety.
  5. Maintain compliance with internal design assurance and audit processes.
  6. Generate electrical parts lists and bills of materials from approved designs.
  7. Support the sales team with technical input for quotations and production costing.
  8. Provide technical support during the build, testing, and commissioning phases.
  9. Contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing and enhancing existing designs.

Requirements:
  1. Degree-qualified or completed a relevant apprenticeship in electrical engineering.
  2. Proficient with AutoCAD and experienced using EPlan.
  3. Background in electrical design within the automation or special purpose machinery sector.
  4. Ability to interpret and create detailed electrical schematics.
  5. Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and compliance.
  6. Logical thinker with excellent problem-solving ability.
  7. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  8. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  9. Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desirable Skills (not essential):
  1. PLC/HMI programming experience (e.g., Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, B&R, Festo).
  2. Knowledge of motion control systems and 6-axis robotics.
  3. Familiarity with script-based programming.
