Are you an experienced and resilient Psychological Therapist or Psychologist, who can be instrumental in the strategic vision and clinical delivery of EMDR & CBT?


If so, we have an exciting opportunity which offers the diverse opportunity to deliver CBT and EMDR therapy within The Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies. The post holder will provide excellent evidence-based CBT/EMDR therapy provision for client's who present with complexity and co morbidity. You will also support provision of scaffolding and supervision to others within CNTW and SPT who require specialist clinical input.


We are looking for a Psychological Therapist or Clinical Psychologist, who is an experienced (at least 2 years post completion of therapy training and accredited with the BABCP) CBT & EMDR practitioner or Accredited Practitioner/Consultant Supervisor.


The successful candidate will help clinically support and develop the provision of CBT/ EMDR, interface with a team and network of other trust wide CBT/EMDR therapists, and provide support with delivering excellent standards around training, supervision, screening, assessment and delivery of CBT/EMDR.


In addition, an interest and knowledge of CBT/EMDR research would be an advantage and an ability to contribute to the quality assurance, governance and clinical service delivery in collaboration with people with lived experience would be welcomed.


Main duties of the job

Given the nature of the service that is provided and our client group, this role can only be fulfilled by a female clinician. We have considered the criteria for Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010 and are satisfied that this is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate service aim.


The successful person will have experience of working with individuals with a range of clinical presentations, including complex trauma, severe mental health conditions, anxiety disorders, depression and psychosis, who in addition can work with complex issues such as neurodiversity.

  • Provide specialist CBT and EMDR to adult service users with complex mental health needs
  • Contribute to service development discussions and projects as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the triaging of complex referrals to the service, consulting with referrers as appropriate.
  • Provide supervision and advice to colleagues, and to other non-professional carers, on psychological aspects of assessment, formulation, care and treatment in accordance with service needs.
  • Provide scaffolding activity across clinical pathways, including supervision, advice and training.

This post will be based at Benfield House, Walkergate Park Hospital, however may also involve working at other CNTW sites where necessary to provide place-based psychological therapies.

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of complex assessments, treatment plans and outcome measures for adults with complex presentations
  • Advanced knowledge of OCD, depression, anxiety and trauma
  • Experience in supervising other psychologists/psychological therapists
  • 2 years post qualification in use of CBT/EMDR
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced knowledge of trauma informed care
Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post graduate study in specialist areas relevant to this field
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Memberships of appropriate professional body: HCPC, NMA, etc.
  • Qualified Practitioner in EMDR and CBT or Accredited Practitioner/Consultant Supervisor
  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society.
  • HCPC registered practitioner psychologist or equivalent e.g. BABCP registered CBT practitioner. Or Member of an appropriate professional body
Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical leadership skills
  • Highly developed skills and abilities to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information
  • Ability to provide clinical advice and recommendations to scaffold other professionals
  • Ability to teach and train others
