Compensation
The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $93,800 to $156,400

Position Details
At Grainger, we are building systems to extend our market leadership for another 90 years. We are looking for a Senior User Experience Designer to design experiences for Grainger's enterprise applications and systems so that Grainger continues to be the destination for "the ones that get it done." The Senior User Experience Designer uses both interaction design and research skills to design Grainger’s internal tools – a suite of custom enterprise tools that allow our employees to drive exceptional customer experiences.
This role reports to the Director, UX Design for internal tools and can be based in Lake Forest, IL on a hybrid basis. Full-time remote candidates will also be considered. Some travel will be required for team meetings at our corporate offices, field observations, and meetings with users.
You Will

  1. Work with Product Managers, Engineers and User Interface Designers to design user experiences for Grainger’s internal customers
  2. Collaborate with other UX and UI Designers to align patterns and priorities
  3. Create early-stage concepts to facilitate discussion, feedback, and alignment
  4. Facilitate discussions with users and stakeholders to define experience needs
  5. Translate business requirements and user needs into tangible interaction designs through detailed user flows and annotated wireframes
  6. Understand technical and business constraints and scale designs for iterative release, ensuring user needs are met in each iteration
  7. Evaluate current experiences and provide recommendations for improvement
  8. Communicate design decisions, rationale, and direction when presenting work
  9. Develop detailed documentation for design standards
  10. Plan and conduct user research, user testing and secondary research

You Have

  1. Formal education in Human Centered Design, Design Methods, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or related field
  2. 3+ years of UX experience working with an agile product team; corporate B2B experience preferred
  3. A deep understanding of design, usability, and research best practices
  4. Experience designing for complex business processes
  5. Experience contributing to a pattern library or design system
  6. Proficiency in common wireframing tools
  7. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  8. Strong facilitation skills
  9. Initiative to proactively plan and execute work
  10. The ability to make thoughtful decisions when faced with ambiguity
  11. Work samples that show how you broke down complexity, empathized with the user, and balanced user needs, business needs, and technical considerations
