Soho House is looking for a junior interior designer to join its team in London.
The role
The junior interior designer is responsible for producing high quality project design deliverables from concept generation to both FF&E specification and construction documents.
They work on one large, or multiple smaller projects simultaneously overseen by the senior designer/lead designer on tasks and deliverables to ensure the facilitation of a project’s completion.
Main duties
Project-based:
- Producing high quality project design deliverables from concept phase to construction packages with the overview of senior designer/lead designer.
- Working closely with the project team following efficient design management processes and implementation initiatives.
- Creating meeting minutes after each internal and external design for the senior designer/lead designer review and distributing it to the team.
- Responsible for sample research for projects and ensuring project boxes are kept neat and tidy.
- Ensuring project milestones and deadlines are met with the overview of senior/lead designer.
- Creating project schedules, design drawings and facilitating the prototype process by liaising between the design team and suppliers.
- Responsible for the project timetable and interior design budget and working closely with procurement agent to ensure smooth delivery of projects.
- Ensuring that the integrity of the agreed design solutions are maintained by taking responsibility for the development of the design and the project.
- Undertaking an ongoing review of subsequent stages with the input from the lead designer for key project stages.
- Assigning project hours to Harvest on a daily level.
Team management:
- Helping maintain a general staff well-being and a happy and positive work environment.
Standards/project running:
- Ensuring projects follow office standards, and helping keep standards up to date with project info, project admin, maintaining design programme.
Project responsibilities
Stage one – initial concept:
- Familiarising oneself with internal project programme/deadlines/budget.
- Responsible for overall concept direction with the overview of senior designer/lead designer.
- Responsible for organising regular reviews with lead designer.
- Researching and collecting hard and soft finish samples for design reviews.
Stage two – detailed concept:
- Responsible for final layout plan, ensuring that it meets all client/operational requirements.
- Creating FF&E proposals, schedules with the review of senior designer/lead designer.
- Reviewing FF&E budget with procurement manager.
- Responsible for ensuring all finishes meet technical, financial and operations requirements.
Stage three – detailed design package:
- Creating tender packages.
- Liaising with project design team to ensure coordination between drawings.
- Involvement in VE workshops.
- Liaising with procurement manager to ensure their understanding of design intent.
- Creating construction drawings with the review of senior designer/lead designer.
- Collating and coordinating workshop drawings with the overview of senior designer/lead designer.
- Organising prototype development and reviews with the overview of lead designer.
Stage four – site attendance:
- Attending site meetings.
- Attending all design team meetings.
- Working with procurement team to coordinate delivery/installation.
Stage five – installation and handover:
- Management and coordination of site installation.
- Creating detailed and user-friendly handover document.
- Responsible for snagging and follow-up.
About you:
- Creative and detail-oriented junior interior designer with a strong understanding of interior design principles, FF&E specification and construction documentation.
- Experienced in managing multiple projects, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met efficiently.
- Proficient in researching materials, coordinating with suppliers, and maintaining project timetables and budgets.
- Skilled in producing high-quality design deliverables, from concept development to construction documentation.
- Strong ability to uphold design integrity while balancing aesthetics, functionality, and financial considerations.
- Excellent communication skills, able to liaise effectively with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Organised and proactive in attending site meetings, producing clear design documentation, and overseeing installations.
- Committed to maintaining design standards and contributing to a positive, collaborative work environment.
