Job description

Social & Wellness Co-ordinator
Location: BAM Finstown, Orkney

Are you passionate about creating vibrant, healthy, and connected communities? Do you thrive in an environment where you can make a real difference to people’s wellbeing? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

About the Role
We are looking for a dynamic Social & Wellness Co-ordinator to join our team at BAM Finstown in Orkney. In this exciting and varied role, you’ll take the lead in developing and delivering a wide range of health, wellbeing, social, and recreational activities that foster a positive and inclusive community for camp residents — while also building links with the local Orkney community.

You’ll be at the heart of camp life, helping to create a welcoming environment, providing opportunities for residents to relax, socialise, stay active, and focus on their wellbeing. From fitness classes and wellness initiatives to quiz nights, film screenings, and outdoor activities, you’ll plan and deliver an exciting calendar of events that cater to everyone.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and deliver fitness, recreational, and wellbeing programmes for camp residents.
  2. Conduct gym inductions and health assessments to support residents’ fitness journeys.
  3. Offer personalised wellbeing consultations, general lifestyle advice, and basic nutritional guidance.
  4. Organise a varied programme of social events — think quiz nights, film screenings, games nights, sports competitions and more.
  5. Develop outdoor activities, from walking and running groups to local excursions and events.
  6. Collaborate with the onsite culinary team to promote healthy eating and wellness initiatives.
  7. Promote and deliver health and wellbeing campaigns, in line with the Compass Group calendar.
  8. Foster strong relationships with both residents and the local community, ensuring a sense of belonging.
  9. Support the smooth running of the camp, always maintaining the highest health & safety standards.

What We’re Looking For
  1. Previous experience in a similar role — ideally within a camp, large unit, or hotel environment.
  2. Qualification in Fitness, Wellbeing, or Nutrition.
  3. Experience planning and delivering events and activities.
  4. A real passion for health and wellbeing with a positive, can-do attitude.
  5. Great communication and interpersonal skills — you’re a natural when it comes to engaging with people and building relationships.
  6. Strong organisational skills, able to work to budgets, timelines, and procedures.
  7. Current First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain one).
  8. IT literate, comfortable using Word, Excel, and other systems.

What’s in it for you?
  1. A unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping life at the camp.
  2. A varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.
  3. The chance to bring your creative ideas to life and make a real impact on residents’ wellbeing.
  4. Being part of a supportive team within ESS, part of Compass Group, a global leader in support services.

Desirable, but not essential
  1. Event management qualifications
  2. OH&S training or accreditation
  3. Background in Health Promotion, Nutrition, or Physical Education
