Software Development Manager, Amazon Payment Services

APS (Amazon Payment Service) is looking for a talented and experienced Software Development Manager to drive new initiatives from scratch across cross-functional teams and to roll out business transformational programs. In this role, the SDM will build and grow a team of SDEs. The SDM and his team will work with Senior SDEs, PEs, Product Managers, Risk Managers, TPMs, and Senior Leadership to design, develop, and deliver results while fostering inputs and participation from all levels of the organization.

You should be someone who wants to conceive and design highly secure, scalable, and robust software to address opportunities in the payments industry through cloud computing. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in the tech industry with a focus on distributed systems, web services, and high availability production systems.

Key job responsibilities

We are looking for a seasoned SDM to develop massive scale, distributed computing solutions with a focus on payment transaction processing. You will be responsible for driving the team’s structuring, growth, technical direction, strategizing, and shaping our long-term vision and architecture. You will own major deliverables end-to-end, drive roadmaps, and provide technical leadership to the engineering team. In this role you will:

1. Work with PE, Sr. SDE, TPM, and Product managers in developing a strategy and roadmap to provide new products from scratch.
2. Work closely with senior engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development.
3. Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements, and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules.
4. Plan projects and features, manage stakeholders, and track external commitments.
5. Maintain operational excellence - monitoring, alarming, and managing of incidents in production services.
6. Hire, build, and grow a team of strong software developer engineers and maintain the high-performance bar.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

1. 7+ years of engineering experience
2. 3+ years of engineering team management experience
3. 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience
4. Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations
5. Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
2. Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
