We are seeking a Chief Sales & Marketing Officer (CSMO) to head up all commercial functions for this leading UK organisation. Reporting to the CEO with a seat on the company’s main board this is a high-profile role that will suit a dynamic, entrepreneurial team focused individual who has a record of delivering extraordinarily successful results in a competitive market whilst collaborating with colleagues on the Board. To be considered you must have an impressive career trajectory gained in leading FMCG, manufacturing or logistics organisations alongside exceptional academics.

The CSMO will drive sales, marketing, business development, digital, and customer service efforts to achieve the company’s growth and revenue goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in commercial management, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of driving business success.

As a dynamic CSMO the successful candidate will optimise routes to market, develop strategic partnerships, drive deployment and revenue growth, set pricing strategy, and lead all sales and marketing activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Commercial Leadership

  • Develop and implement the company’s commercial strategy in alignment with business goals and objectives.
  • Identify and assess new market opportunities, trends, and competitive dynamics to drive growth and innovation.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to set strategic priorities and goals for commercial initiatives.

Sales and Business Development

  • Oversee the development and execution of sales strategies to achieve revenue targets and market share growth.
  • Lead the business development team in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and partnerships.
  • Foster strong relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders to drive business growth.
  • Analyse sales metrics and develop actionable strategies for growth.

Marketing and Brand Management

  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to enhance brand awareness, reputation, and customer engagement.
  • Develop and promote the company’s e-commerce offering and digital initiatives.
  • Oversee the management of marketing campaigns, digital marketing efforts, and public relations activities.
  • Utilise market research and customer insights to inform marketing strategies and decisions.
  • Manage, grow and sustain relationships with a portfolio of key accounts, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Work with account management team to help successfully renew existing clients.
  • Attend conferences and industry events, being the subject matter expert.
  • Develop and implement customer service strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Oversee the management of customer service operations, ensuring high-quality service delivery and issue resolution.
  • Implement customer retention programs to maintain and grow the customer base.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to develop and manage commercial budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and make adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor commercial performance, ensuring the company meets its revenue, profitability, and growth targets.
  • Optimise pricing strategies, sales incentives, and promotional activities to drive revenue growth.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the commercial team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Promote collaboration and effective communication within the commercial team and across the organisation.
  • Identify and address training and development needs within the commercial team.
  • Meticulously plan the team structure to ensure the function is future proofed for long-term success.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for commercial matters with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate the company’s commercial vision, strategy, and performance to the executive team, board of directors, and other stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry leaders, partners, and key stakeholders.

The Person

  • Degree educated, preferably with a Masters degree.
  • Has demonstrated consistent career progression within a blue-chip organisation with experience in a senior leadership role, ideally within FMCG, manufacturing, or logistics.
  • Strong future potential to be a CEO.
  • Proven track record of driving sales and marketing success and achieving consistent business growth in a complex and competitive market.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience of launching and delivering a successful digital platform.
  • Ability to navigate complex commercial environments and manage multiple priorities.
  • Leading a sales and marketing function through a period of significant change.
  • Strategic capability of articulating and driving a clear and compelling vision for the company’s commercial strategy.
  • Able to make informed, effective decisions under pressure.
  • Open to new ideas and approaches, fostering a culture of creativity and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrates high ethical standards and integrity in all actions.
  • Works effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders, promoting a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Maintains composure and focus in challenging situations, adapting to changing circumstances.

  • Proficiency with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Systems.
  • Comfortable to travel both nationally and internationally.
