An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Acute Adult Mental Health Wards at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough.

This post is offered on a permanent and full-time basis, covering four acute adult mental health wards. You will join a welcoming multi-disciplinary team in the provision of compassionate, trauma-informed care to individuals in need of acute mental health care.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Psychology. Previous experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist and delivering psychologically informed interventions to people experiencing mental health difficulties would be desirable. This is a versatile and fast-paced role; you will need to demonstrate compassion, be adaptable, work flexibly, have excellent communication skills, and experience working within a multidisciplinary team.

Main Duties of the Job

The post offers applicants an opportunity for direct and indirect work. The post holder will work under the supervision of an experienced Qualified Applied Psychologist in supporting the co-creation of MDT formulations and further assessment where needed to inform care and intervention planning. Delivery of brief psychologically informed interventions (both group and 1-1) will also be part of the role. There may also be opportunities for audit and service evaluation as well as protected time for professional development. Opportunities are available to connect with other Assistant Psychologists within Durham Tees Valley AMH directorate.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree in Psychology
  • Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Numeracy, Literacy, and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, and/or research design and analysis

Knowledge

  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities.
  • An awareness of the application of psychology to health care.
  • Understanding of confidentiality
  • Awareness of the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct

Skills

  • Ability to communicate information (verbal and written) effectively in a manner appropriate to the individual and situation
  • Competence in using psychometric assessment tools (within agreed timescale)
  • Record Keeping (within agreed timescale)
  • Methodical and accurate approach to data collection and analysis
  • Breakaway techniques (within agreed timescale)
