The team you'll work with:

You'll join a team of dedicated 2nd Line of Defence Treasury Risk experts covering Capital Risk, Liquidity Risk, Interest Rate in the Banking Book and Reporting and Tax Risk. Working closely with First Line of Defence colleagues providing guidance, governance, and oversight. The team is heavily involved in delivering strategic projects across the whole Bank to support commercial growth objectives.

If you have a background within Capital Risk coupled with an experience in accounting or Model Risk and would like to continue your development across a broader range of both Financial and Non-Financial risk disciplines within a client and employee centric Bank, with ambitious growth plans, this role might just be for you!

The value you'll add:

Reporting to the Head of Financial Risk Management and Model Risk you'll provide Second Line oversight on Capital Risk of the UK Innovation Banking business, primarily providing oversight activities across Capital Risk, with additional responsibility for supporting oversight of Model Risk and Financial Reporting & Tax.

Responsibilities:

  1. As a Senior Risk Manager, Capital Risk, you'll be the 2LOD Risk Steward for the management of Capital Risk which will include:
  2. Responsibility for ensuring Treasury First Line of Defense ("1LOD") is aligning the management of Capital to the HSBC Risk Policies and providing 2LOD sign-off for the risk and control assessments.
  3. Be the single point of contact within the 2LOD for Capital activities for both the 1LOD and HSBC Group colleagues. Supporting and providing oversight of the management of Capital within the 1LOD.
  4. The provision of Subject Matter Expertise on Capital Risk ensuring that industry developments and best practice are captured within the management of Capital Risk by the 1LOD.
  5. Review and support of the annual calibration of Risk Appetite for Capital to ensure that the level of risk taken is commensurate with the strategic plan.
  6. Working with various stakeholders within the Bank including Product, Finance, Operations and Treasury to ensure that all aspects of Capital Risk across the Bank are understood, reported and managed within limits.
  7. Highlighting emerging risks associated with Capital Risk arising from external factors such as regulatory change or market conditions and internal factors such as product development, change programmes or changes in the control environment.
  8. Responsible for reviewing the impact on Capital Risk arising from the introduction of new products or changes in existing products and providing 2LOD sign-off as part of the product due diligence process to confirm that Capital Risk are understood, measured, and monitored.
  9. Provide significant support on Risk Steward oversight for Model and Financial Reporting & Tax Risks for the above activities.
  10. Build an understanding of other areas of Treasury, such as Funding & Liquidity Risk, Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB) and Transactional Foreign Exchange (TFX) Risk to provide cover within the team as required.

Skills/ Qualifications:

  1. Highly numerate with excellent Excel skills, and the ability to investigate/manipulate/model data quickly, find trends and provide recommendations, holding relevant Economics or Accounting qualifications.
  2. Extensive experience working in Capital Risk in First Line of Defense (1LOD) or Second Line of Defense (2LOD) functions, with strong knowledge of key processes involved in Capital Risk management, strong knowledge of Capital Risk regulations, and their relevant application to the product set and balance sheet.
  3. A good understanding of the Balance Sheet and P&L, including accounting implications. A background in accounting would be desirable.
  4. A good understanding of Model Risk including key regulatory developments and their application within firms.
  5. Experience of Liquidity, Interest Rate in the Banking Book (IRRBB) and (Treasury Foreign Exchange) TFX Risks would be advantageous.
  6. Excellent communication and presentation abilities, including strong written and verbal skills and the ability to explain issues and decisions, as well as strategy, both internally and externally.
  7. The ability to multitask, adapt to an ever-changing landscape of deliverables, be able to navigate ambiguity, a deep sense of ownership and attention to detail are essential.
