Job description

Due to sustained growth and the evolution of business requirements of our customer base, the Intelligence Solutions business within Leonardo UK Ltd is seeking to expand our Test & Release capability for the assurance of multiple projects.

We are therefore looking to recruit an experienced ICT Test engineer who can quickly settle into the systems and customer environment (UK MOD) and apply their test and release skills to systems integration projects which we are about to commence.

The role will be focused on a multi-tiered programme that is looking for a proactive Test Manager with demonstrable experience (preferably with a back history in system engineering), and be responsible for the delivery of successful projects and programmes via a testing focus for the end client. The role will require someone with strategic thinking but with the drive to continue hands-on testing activities when required.

This will be a newly established role looking and building new ways of working within both a well-established ICT engineering team as well as a newly minted development team using different delivery methodologies, making it an ideal time to influence how Testing and Transition will work for system and services delivery for clients.

You will be able to detect the areas that do not comply with the stated quality standards and policies and provide options for corrective action plans for them as well as assist testers with troubleshooting any errors and streamline testing procedures.

Assist in or lead in creating documents like instruction guides, procedure guides, specification reports, operation manuals, technical reports and maintenance documents based on your in-depth understanding of the system gained through its comprehensive testing.

  1. Responsible for ensuring all change projects and programmes develop appropriate test and transition management plans in collaboration with the operating business unit(s), delivery managers and internal and external stakeholders to address the identified impacts for all change initiatives in preparation for release.
  2. Coach and mentor any stakeholders involved or connected to the test and transition practices, assuring the readiness of the business for change and identify associated risks and issues.
  3. Work with the Teams to agree testing approaches, tooling and issue mitigations identified within the various testing events.
  4. Provide assurance, coaching and mentoring to build a competent workforce capable of good practice test and transition activities.
  5. Engage in end to end programme activities from requirements to hands-on testing activities.

The right candidate must demonstrate experience within a test manager role, providing extensive knowledge of test automation, test architecture and test strategy, as they will be responsible for overall strategy and transformation of the testing programme. The candidate will have a good understanding of test methodologies with planning experience of test delivery.

  1. The role absolutely requires the candidate to be a sole UK National with a current DV clearance.
  2. Distinct work experience of performing a system test / engineering role.
  3. Extensive experience with Test Automation.
  4. Apparent experience in Programme Testing Management.
  5. Strategic and technical leadership to support delivery of testing.
  6. Analysis and definition of effective test strategy.
  7. Applications of testing knowledge with Waterfall/ Agile methodologies.

A background in the defence industry would be desirable.
