New Rickstones Academy is graded ‘Good’ (November 2023) and has a state of the art building offering fantastic facilities for both students and staff. Over the last 9 years the academy has seen a huge increase in student numbers, with the number of students on roll more than doubling. The academy is a popular choice in the local area, is oversubscribed, and has added another new building to meet this demand.

The English department is well-established and has recently implemented a totally new and ambitious Key Stage 3 curriculum to match the needs of our students. At GCSE we follow the AQA exam board for both English Language and Literature, and offer AQA English Literature at KS5. In line with Key Stage 3, both our GCSE and A Level specification and teaching have undergone considerable redesign and resequencing to best benefit our students. Our eight specialist classrooms are equipped with ViewSonic boards and we have suites of chrome books available for student use. We have nine specialist English teachers, a Librarian, Reading Intervention Tutors and LSA support for SEND students. The department has an extensive range of resources to support teaching and development. We have a rich extra-curricular offering with various trips and theatre visits, World Book Day celebrations, visiting authors and an annual public speaking competition.

Development is a priority with an extensive and successful CPD (Continuing Professional Development) programme to further develop our excellent staff.
