We currently have a vacancy for a Band 4 Dental Nurse:

22.5 hours / 0.6 WTE / Working days to be Monday, Wednesday & Thursday. Based in the Sandwell locality.

Working flexibly within the dental team to provide high-quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the Dental Service, based at Community Dental Services (CDS) including Mobile Clinics and/or additional external sites as required, and at Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH).

Dental Nurses will be expected to work flexibly across the Community Dental Services (CDS).

• To provide chair-side assistance to clinicians within the dental service.
• To carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department.

Main duties of the job

- Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.

- To prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post-operative instructions as required.

- To undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arrange any necessary repairs as required.

- To ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.

- To provide chair-side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.

- To provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.

- To assist the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.

- To support and assist clinicians including all student disciplines.

- To support and supervise all apprentice nurses, undergraduate groups.

Person specification

Education

• Professional Registration with General Dental Council
• Other Dental Nursing post qualifications

Experience

• Relevant experience working as part of a dental team, e.g. General Practice, Hospital, other Primary Dental Services / Community Dental Services experiencing chair-side duties
• Experience of working with children, elderly, medically compromised patients, and patients with learning disabilities
