About The Role

Financial Services Regulation Lawyer

Location: UK

Our Financial Services team is dedicated to business and personal finance transactions, secured and unsecured lending, investments, and commercial finance issues. We are delighted to announce a fabulous opportunity for a Financial Services Lawyer to join this growing team. The role will enable the right candidate to carve out an exciting career with the support and expertise of our partners across multiple disciplines helping to build on and grow our existing financial services expertise.

You will help clients navigate complex and sensitive regulatory challenges. An in-depth understanding of regulatory policy and process is crucial.

The role could include advisory, transactional/commercial projects regulatory work and/or contentious related matters; both UK domestic and international. Clients could be across many parts of the FS industry. You will have the opportunity to become involved in both contentious and/or non-contentious work, if of interest.

You can expect to play a significant role in working for clients that are key to the firm. As part of this, you may have the opportunity to undertake client secondments to assist our clients and to build your skills and expertise further.

The role is ideal for a committed lawyer who is looking to advance their career. Whatever your level, you'll be expected to play a full role in the firm, including involvement in business development and regular client contact. We take a genuine interest and support career development.

What we would like the role to cover:

  • Advise on a range of issues across the breadth of financial service clients.
  • Advise on FSMA/RAO/Handbook (incl. SYSC, PERG, SUP, COBS, MCOBS, ICOBS, CASS/DISP), IDD, appointed representatives regime (including SUP 11).
  • The ability to provide a wide range of Financial Services regulatory advice covering the whole range of Financial Services Regulation including Emerging Tech such as Digital Assets/Crypto Assets.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge on issues within the Financial Services Regulatory team, working collaboratively with colleagues to share knowledge.
  • Develop opportunities for referral of work across the business and actively participate in business development opportunities.
  • Have the ability to actively support and provide advice on M&A/Private Equity transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed.
  • Having expertise in contentious matters, dealing with the FCA, FOS, and/or the FSCS.

About You

  • You will have at least 5 years’ experience in financial services regulation, post qualification.
  • A solid grounding in financial services.
  • A Diploma in Financial Studies or a willingness to study whilst in post (support is offered).
  • An ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and successfully manage client relationships.
  • Excellent technical ability and drafting skills.
  • Have strong commercial acumen.
  • Be proactive, ambitious and organised with a keen eye for detail.
  • Have a demonstrable interest in this area and be keen to develop a career in this area and to build a practice.
  • Be adept at building strong client relationships, but also a team player.
  • Be able to provide clear, concise and pragmatic commercial advice.
