to commence in October 2025.This is an excellent opportunity for post or peri-CCT trainees to develop skills in Bariatric surgery. The appointee will be actively involved in running of the bariatric unit and providing support for the Consultants, Specialist Bariatric Nurses, Dieticians, patient coordinators and medical team.
The Bariatric Department at Royal Derby Hospital is well established providing bariatric services (elective and emergency) for Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. A full compliment of bariatric procedures is offered within the multi disciplinary unit.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a varied and busy department that will provide opportunity for training and development.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will be an integral part of the Bariatric Department participating in theatre lists where training will be provided to develop skills in bariatric surgery. The post holder will run independent follow up clinics for bariatric patients and support consultants in outpatient clinics. Opportunity for training in endoscopy sessions is also available.
The post holder will provide cover during day-time hours (8am to 5pm) for bariatric emergencies presenting to EMBMI.
They will be expected to participate in academic activities including research, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
They will be actively involved in the running of the department providing support for the wider multi-disciplinary team.
The appointee will actively participate in the UGI Department, including opportunities for research and teaching alongside a range of clinical duties including ward rounds, theatres and outpatient clinics.

Person SpecificationQualificationEssential- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Higher Degree (PhD or MC)
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of application
- Life Support Qualifications BLS & ALS
- FRCS
Desirable- Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty
ExperienceEssential- Post-CCT (General Surgery) or within 12-months of completion of CCT
- Experience in advanced laparoscopic UGI surgery
- A minimum of 12 months experience in a UK Health Care setting
- Evidence of teaching experience and feedback
Desirable- Postgraduate Teaching Qualification
Clinical Knowledge and SkillsEssential- Up to date General Surgery and Bariatric knowledge
- Experience in making clinical decisions & managing risk
Desirable- Attendance at national/international Bariatric meetings.
Clinical GovernanceEssential- Evidence of experience in undergraduate & postgraduate teaching
- Evidence of active participation in audit
- Demonstrates understanding of principles of research
Desirable- Postgraduate Teaching Qualification
