Salary : £38,100 - £44,400 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Purpose

The Business Advisor role reports into the Head of Production in BBC Wales and sits in the Business Management Production team. The team is responsible for providing a wide range of support across the production business, including production management, budgeting, procurement advice, risk management, innovation, projects, strategic advice and support.

The team supports the Radio Wales, Radio Cymru, BBC Wales News, BBC Wales Sport and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales departments. This role will focus in one or two areas of the business and is expected to work collaboratively across the Business Management Team to deliver best practice ways of working in all areas.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The role works closely with senior production leaders and is responsible for maintaining high quality information to support good decision making in the business.

  • Fully manage the funding plan to deliver the business area content strategy.
  • Put in place effective control and monitoring to manage production spend.
  • Establish good risk mitigations to minimise the impact of risks.
  • Ensure department monitoring is timely and accurate.
  • Provide effective business advice to the senior management teams.
  • Report progress on compliance for spend, sustainability and content hours.
  • Key stakeholder for all support functions: Finance, HR, Procurement, Projects, Technology, Operations.
  • Discuss and agree effective responsibility lines between production support teams.
  • Provide clarity to production teams – turning complex workflows, terminology, controls and activity into meaningful information and plans.
  • Explore and help develop new opportunities that add value in the production area.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

The successful candidate will work in a very busy and often demanding production environment where each hour of the day can be very different to the one planned. The role suits someone good at planning and organising but are prepared to be flexible and change their plans at short notice. You will need to remember and apply an extensive range of business, administrative and production management knowledge and potentially deliver imaginative workaround solutions but always within company policies and guidelines. Collaboration and close working relationships with the production teams is a must for this role. Home working is possible, but you should expect to be in the office for 3 to 4 days every week.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:

  • excellent data management and analysis skills
  • awareness and implementation of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging elements
  • ability to spot and minimise risks in the business model
  • ability to present business analysis to a wide range of stakeholders
  • experience of production management and/or managing a portfolio of productions
  • knowledge of end-to-end production and multi-platform workflows
  • ability to influence and drive the most efficient use of production resources
  • take an interest in sustainability and be prepared to challenge negative environmental behaviours
  • experience of driving change in a complex and changing environment
  • up-to-date knowledge of the BBC Content, BBC Vision and trends in the wider industry
