Job Overview:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Spanish Teacher to join our school in South East London. The successful candidate will teach Spanish to students across KS3 & KS4 age groups and abilities, fostering a passion for language learning and cultural understanding. The role requires a teacher who is committed to delivering engaging lessons that inspire students to develop their language skills while encouraging global citizenship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Spanish lessons for students at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (and potentially Key Stage 5 if applicable).
- Develop and implement schemes of work that are in line with the curriculum and tailored to the needs of all learners.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring that all students are challenged and supported.
- Assess, monitor, and track student progress in Spanish, providing regular feedback to students and parents/carers.
- Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages the use of Spanish in everyday contexts.
- Prepare students for external exams (e.g., GCSE and potentially A-Level) by providing appropriate guidance and exam preparation materials.
- Foster students' cultural awareness of Spanish-speaking countries through lessons, extra-curricular activities, and cultural events.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the MFL department to ensure a consistent and effective approach to teaching and learning across the school.
- Attend departmental meetings, parents' evenings, and other school events as required.
- Participate in the development of curriculum materials, including textbooks, digital resources, and extracurricular activities.
- Ensure that all students are making progress in their language acquisition and have a deep understanding of both the language and culture.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities such as clubs, trips, or language exchanges.
Requirements:
- A degree in Spanish, Modern Languages, or a related field.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (for UK-based applicants).
- Previous experience teaching Spanish at secondary school level, ideally across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Strong subject knowledge and a passion for teaching Spanish.
- A student-centred approach to teaching with a clear understanding of how to differentiate lessons for learners of varying abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students, encouraging their love for language learning.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- A commitment to continuous professional development.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience of teaching Spanish at Key Stage 3-5 (A-Level).
- A second modern foreign language (e.g., French, German) is advantageous.
- Experience with using technology in the classroom (e.g., digital learning platforms, interactive whiteboards).
- An interest in or experience with leading or contributing to extracurricular activities related to Spanish or MFL.
- Experience of working in a bilingual or multilingual setting is a plus.
