Job description

Job Overview:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Spanish Teacher to join our school in South East London. The successful candidate will teach Spanish to students across KS3 & KS4 age groups and abilities, fostering a passion for language learning and cultural understanding. The role requires a teacher who is committed to delivering engaging lessons that inspire students to develop their language skills while encouraging global citizenship.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Spanish lessons for students at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (and potentially Key Stage 5 if applicable).
  2. Develop and implement schemes of work that are in line with the curriculum and tailored to the needs of all learners.
  3. Use a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring that all students are challenged and supported.
  4. Assess, monitor, and track student progress in Spanish, providing regular feedback to students and parents/carers.
  5. Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages the use of Spanish in everyday contexts.
  6. Prepare students for external exams (e.g., GCSE and potentially A-Level) by providing appropriate guidance and exam preparation materials.
  7. Foster students' cultural awareness of Spanish-speaking countries through lessons, extra-curricular activities, and cultural events.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues in the MFL department to ensure a consistent and effective approach to teaching and learning across the school.
  9. Attend departmental meetings, parents' evenings, and other school events as required.
  10. Participate in the development of curriculum materials, including textbooks, digital resources, and extracurricular activities.
  11. Ensure that all students are making progress in their language acquisition and have a deep understanding of both the language and culture.
  12. Contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities such as clubs, trips, or language exchanges.
Requirements:
  1. A degree in Spanish, Modern Languages, or a related field.
  2. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (for UK-based applicants).
  3. Previous experience teaching Spanish at secondary school level, ideally across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  4. Strong subject knowledge and a passion for teaching Spanish.
  5. A student-centred approach to teaching with a clear understanding of how to differentiate lessons for learners of varying abilities.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to inspire and motivate students, encouraging their love for language learning.
  8. Good organizational and time-management skills.
  9. A commitment to continuous professional development.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  1. Experience of teaching Spanish at Key Stage 3-5 (A-Level).
  2. A second modern foreign language (e.g., French, German) is advantageous.
  3. Experience with using technology in the classroom (e.g., digital learning platforms, interactive whiteboards).
  4. An interest in or experience with leading or contributing to extracurricular activities related to Spanish or MFL.
  5. Experience of working in a bilingual or multilingual setting is a plus.
